The Carson Scholars Fund is delighted to announce that 477 scholarships have been awarded to exceptional students across the nation. Due to the restrictions currently in place due to the (COVID-19) pandemic, the 24th annual Carson Scholars Fund banquet, which was to be held in Maryland on May 3, 2020, has been cancelled. This banquet celebration included scholars in Maryland and surrounding states. Other festivities are being planned to celebrate the 215 new and 437 recognized students who were named 2020 Carson Scholars.
These young scholars are exceptional, not only in the academic setting, but in their communities and globally. Carson Scholars are individuals in grades 4-11 who display outstanding academic achievement (at least a 3.75 GPA) and humanitarian qualities. New scholars receive a $1,000 college scholarship and the coveted honor of being named a Carson Scholar.
Allegany County Public Schools is home to one new Carson Scholar, Preston Crawford, fifth grader at Flintstone Elementary School, and seven repeat Carson Scholars. These students are as follows: Cameron Breighner, Mt. Savage 6th grade; Kelsey Darber, Washington 8th grade; Kinsey Hostetler, Braddock 8th grade; Robert Moffett, Allegany 10th grade; Brooklyne Noel, Fort Hill 10th grade; Dawson Ternent, Mountain Ridge 11th grade; and Benjamin Twigg, Washington 8th grade.

The Carson Scholars Fund had also planned to celebrate scholars across the country at four additional regional banquets which have also been cancelled. In total 1,389 new and recognized scholars will be honored in addition to five new alumni Hall of Fame members.
