Maryland General Assembly Officially Underway with Budget Top Priority

The 2017 day session of the Maryland General Assembly was officially gaveled opened at noon Wednesday and now the work begins for the 188 members of the house and senate. As always the budget will dominate much of the debate during the 90 day session, with news of a projected $800-million shortfall over the next two years.  Once again, Mike Miller was elected by his colleagues as Senate President- a post he was held for 30 years.  On the budget issue, Miller places much of the blame for the state’s fiscal challenges on Comptroller Peter Franchot- a fellow democrat that Miller has long been at odds with…
