MD 51/Industrial Blvd improvements underway

March 20th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has begun a project to replace the bridge deck and rehabilitate the superstructure of the MD 51 (Industrial Blvd) bridge over MD 61 (Canal Parkway).

The $10.9 million project is expected to be complete by Spring 2022. MDOT SHA contractor Triton Construction, Inc. of St. Albans, West Virginia, will perform the work in the following steps:

  • Remove the median in front of the bridge approach
  • Implement continuous left lane closures in both directions on MD51
  • Perform redecking work on the south side of the MD 51 bridge over Canal Parkway

Approximately 15,000 vehicles travel on this section of MD 51 per day. Motorists are encouraged to allow for additional commuting time.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.
