Missing NY man located in Hancock, in critical condition

On Thursday morning just before 8 AM, the Washington County 911 Center received a 911 hang-up from a cell phone that was in the area of the C&O Canal in Hancock, MD.  Troopers responded to the location of where the call originated and found a car parked near the canal that was linked to a missing person from Somers, NY.  The 25 year old male advised family that he was suicidal and left New York on 5/15/2019. An extensive search was conducted throughout the night and it was learned that the subject traveled south on I-81 into West Virginia.  The subject traveled back into Maryland sometime throughout the night. 

 

A search was conducted using numerous police assets, including Troopers from MSP Hagerstown Barrack, MSP K9 tracking teams, MSP helicopter “Trooper 5”, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, Maryland Natural Resources Police, National Park Police, Hancock Fire Department and Hancock Rescue Squad. 

 

The male was found during the search near the C&O Canal.  The male cut his arms with a knife and was bleeding profusely.  Troopers applied a tourniquet and carried the victim to a nearby ambulance where he was stabilized and flown to Shock Trauma by MSP Trooper 5.  The landing zone was conducted in the parking lot of the Hancock Truck Stop.
