New Maryland Law Could Impact Footer Dye Works Project

April 26th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

A new Maryland law could impact plans for the Footer Dye Works project. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot says a brewery bill passed in the final days of the General Assembly session that raises the annual barrel limits in tap rooms from 500 barrels to 2,000 could be devastating for small and/or new breweries across the state. The barrel limitation was a problem for Franchot, who said before House Bill 1283 was passed that it could possibly kill the industry. Several nearby states have no annual volume limitation for on-premise sales, including Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C. And states like North Carolina and Tennessee have a 25,000-barrel cap. The law may present challenges for developers looking to see a brewery serve as an anchor for the Footer Dye Works project. Franchot says this will definitely hurt smaller breweries and could serve  as a deterrent for new breweries to do business in Maryland…
