Officials Re-Establish Commission for Women

County officials took action earlier this month to re-establish the Allegany County Commission for Women.  After being inactive for several years the commission is now re-constituted as a result of a vote by the Allegany County Commissioners voted at the most recent public meeting.  The organization is an entity by county chapter under the Maryland Commission for Women.  According to its bylaws, one of the organization’s goals is to “foster a close relationship and exchange of ideas among women and organizations that impact women in Allegany County.”  Additional objectives include “to promote economic, social and political equality of all women of Allegany County, regardless of race, age, religion, national origin or marital status.”  The charter provides for 15 seats on the commission and is not limited to women. County Administrator Brandon Butler says that two thirds of the members are being appointed by the county commissioners- with the remaining five to be selected by the women’s commission.
