State Flags Also Go To Half Staff To Honor President Bush

December 2nd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

President George H W Bush died Friday at the age of 94, and he was no stranger to this area. Bush traveled to Slanesville Elementary School on April 10th 1991 to attend a ceremony honoring National Teacher of the Year Rae Ellen McKee, and also participated in a local fundraiser, recording a message of support to help local victims of the 1985 Flood that ravaged parts of nearby West Virginia.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice issued the following statement:

President George H. W. Bush was a great man, a great public servant, and a brave soldier and veteran; he will be missed by all. Cathy and I send our prayers and condolences to the Bush family and ask all West Virginians to join with us.

In honor and commemoration of President George Herbert Walker Bush, I have issued a proclamation, in accordance with U.S. Code (4 U.S.C. 76m) and a declaration from the President issued on December 1, 2018, ordering that all United States and West Virginia State flags on all State-owned facilities be displayed at half-staff IMMEDIATELY through sunset on December 30, 2018.
