On Tuesday, May 8, 2017 at 2:11 pm Cumberland Police officers responded to an Oldtown Road residence to check on the well being of a 22-year-old man who was reportedly suicidal and homicidal and inside a residence armed with a knife. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the subject but were unsuccessful. Members of the Allegany-Garrett Crisis Negotiation Team arrived on the scene along with the Cumberland Emergency Response Team. Negotiators were able to make contact with the subject and after a short time he surrendered without incident. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
