Van Hollen responds to latest job report

March 4th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor’s employment report announcing that the U.S. economy added 242,000 jobs in February:

"Job growth in February was strong, but far too many Marylanders and Americans don’t feel like they’re benefitting from our improving economy. Creating an economy with more shared prosperity that rewards hard work should be our top priority in Congress.

“Unfortunately, the Tea Party has corrupted this year’s budget process and made the dysfunction in this Congress even worse. Three weeks after rejecting the President’s budget sight unseen, Republicans still haven’t put forward a proposal to help hardworking Americans get ahead. Instead, what we’ve seen are reports that their proposal will squeeze families even further – it would cut investments that strengthen our economy and serve as a smokescreen for the radical Trump-Cruz-Rubio tax plans that would shift even more wealth to the top one percent.

“It’s time for a budget debate that prioritizes the interests of hardworking Americans, not the special interests at the forefront of the Washington Republican agenda.”
