Alexandria Woman Killed At Valley St. And Henderson Ave. Railroad Crossing

On 11/24/18 at 5:43pm Officers with the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to the Valley St and Henderson Ave train crossing for a report of a vehicle stuck on the train tracks. Upon Officer's arrival they observed a female laying in the roadway on Valley St with significant injuries. Officers with the Cumberland Police Department began life saving measures until the arrival of members of the Cumberland Fire Department. The victim who was identified as 51 year old Bernarda Bustamante of Alexandria Virginia was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance where she was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries. Investigation revealed that the vehicle misjudged the turn from Valley St onto Henderson Ave and ended up getting stuck on the train tracks. Several subjects stopped to help free the vehicle from the tracks when it gained traction throwing Bustamante from the vehicle. The scene was reconstructed by a reconstruction officer with the Cumberland Police Department. No foul play is suspected at this time and no criminal charges are expected after consultation with the States Attorneys Office. The Cumberland Police Department was assisted by the Combined County Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I), The Cumberland Fire Dept, and Officials from CSX Transportation. Train traffic and the intersection was closed for approximately an hour and a half.
