On Friday at approximately 12:50 a.m. Frostburg City Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on South Broadway. Upon arrival, police found that a 2002 Saturn passenger car had been crashed into a residence, causing damage to a chain link fence, siding, and a gutter. A witness reported that the driver fled the scene, and a description was provided. Police were able to detect a lingering odor of alcohol from within the vehicle, which was unoccupied at this time.
While investigating the crash, police were approached by a resident of a nearby East College Avenue residence, who reported that a male subject had just forced his way into the victim’s residence, and was still inside.
Police proceeded to the residence, located the suspect inside, and placed him under arrest. The suspect was identified as Jesse William Tippett, 23, of Cumberland.
Based on the investigation, including witness interviews, vehicle information, and observations made, officers determined that Tippett was intoxicated, that the crashed vehicle had belonged to him, and that he was the operator who fled the scene.
While under arrest, Tippett was uncooperative with and aggressive toward police, and he spit toward officers and on a police vehicle, while also making numerous verbal threats toward police.
Tippett was charged with a total of fifteen offenses, including driving while impaired, driving under the influence, and related charges; hit & run-related charges; failure to control speed to avoid a collision, negligent driving, and reckless driving; fourth degree burglary, and two counts of second-degree assault.
Tippett was taken to a District Court Commissioner and held on $7,500.00 bond. He is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending trial.
