Units are responding to a report of a truck fire on Interstate 68 East at the 44 mile marker in LaVale
Area firefighters were kept busy Sunday with incidents in Frostburg and Cumberland. An apartment fire in the Old National Pike area of Frostburg was reported around 3:30 in the afternoon with units responding and getting that fire under control In a matter of minutes. Late on Sunday night, units were dispatched to the 100 block of Arch Street in Cumberland for a duplex fire. Units arrived at 124 Arch Street just before 11 p.m.. That fire too was brought under control in about ten minutes with no injuries reported.
It was a large turnout last week for a community meeting focused on the issue of homelessness with a discussion on what opportunities can be created when the Union Rescue Mission relocates to North Centre Street in the fall of next year. Maryland property values jumped 20.6% over the last three years amid the pandemic's strong market, the largest increase in recent years, and Allegany County residents are feeling the sting. Property owners have already started receiving their reassessments in the mail. While residential property values increased in all counties and Baltimore city for the fifth consecutive year, the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation reports that increases were substantially higher than state averages on the Eastern Shore and in parts of Western Maryland. On Saturday, January 14th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to a business in the 700 block of Park St for a report of a disorderly subject. Upon arrival, officers contacted employees of the establishment. They advised that a male subject had come into the business, yelling and acting in a disorderly manner. On Saturday, January 14th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police served Criminal Summonses on three individuals in reference to an assault that occurred on January 11th, 2023. During that incident, the Cumberland City Police responded to the 900 block of Grand Ave for the report of an assault. A victim in the incident alleged that they tried to leave the residence after conversations with the three individuals made them feel uncomfortable. A new survey shows adults 18 to 25 years-old are far less likely than older generations to say that they are "proud to live in the United States."
