Republican Officials are pushing the No Propaganda Act, which would cut federal funding for public media outlets including National Public Radio and PBS. Pope Francis dies at the age of 88

Bells across church towers in Rome announced the death of Pope Francis Monday at the age of 88. Cardinal Kevin Ferrell, the Vatican camerlengo, from the chapel of the Domus Santa Marta, where Francis lived. “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church.″

Region still recovering from Saturdays Storm

Parts of the region are still without power today following a fast, fierce supercell storm that moved through the area on Saturday night.  Emergency services dealt with multiple calls of trees and power lines down after a thunderstorm with lightning and high winds moved through the area. Several buildings in the area received wind damage, including the Hajica building on North Centre Street which lost a large portion of it's roof. 

ASSAULT ARREST

On April 20th, 2025 at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to Virginia Avenue for the report of an assault. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim, who advised that Brian Adam Fisher had assaulted them. Officers observed injuries to the victim that corroborated their report of the assault. The victim also advised that Fisher had left the area on foot. Fisher was located a short time later, and placed under arrest. Underpass Should Be Refurbished

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council made the decision recently to close the CSX Underpass at Baltimore Street indefinitely while its future is contemplated. The Underpass has existed there since 1903, but its condition has denigrated to the point people are fearful of using it. Allegany County Commissioners say they are not in favor of solar panels planned for a farm along historic Helmstetter’s Curve, but have lost decision making to the state.
