MD DNR Offering First Responders Discount

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced state resident first responders and law enforcement officers will receive a $40 discount for an Annual State Park and Trail Passport. The passport, which allows unlimited day-use entry for all of Maryland’s state parks and park facilities for one year, is otherwise available for $75 for in-state residents. This discount is available to Maryland residents who serve as law enforcement officers, EMTs, firefighters, and similar emergency personnel. Commencement Scheduled for Maryland School For the Blind

The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) is holding its 170th commencement on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 6:00pm. Maryland State Police are warning residents to be aware of a phone scam involving police impersonators that is currently active in Maryland. Maryland State Police have received reports from multiple residents advising that callers contact them claiming to be state troopers or police officers. The reports are attempts to gain financial information or money from residents.  The impersonator tells the potential victims that they need to obtain information from the caller due to a police investigation or they are asking for a donation to support law enforcement and their families. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will temporarily close and detour the eastbound I-68 (National Freeway) ramp to US 219 (Chestnut Ridge Road) (Exit 22) in Grantsville during daytime hours Monday, June 5, to Friday, June 9, weather permitting. The closure is necessary for crews to install curbing on the right side of the exit to effectively accommodate vehicles with long wheelbases. Two arrested on Bedford Street for Assault and Disorderly Conduct

On Thursday, June 1, 2023 at approximately 7:00 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 500 block of Bedford Street for a disturbance.  When police arrived, there were several people in the street arguing about an assault that had just occurred.  The alleged victim reported that he was assaulted by Marquis King.  The alleged victim and multiple witnesses advised that King had strangled the victim.  Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries.  During the investigation, a female subject identified as Hailey Moon, began causing a disturbance and refused to listen to officers.  Moon was placed under…

VIOLATION OF PRE-TRIAL RELEASE ARREST

On Thursday, June 1, 2023 at approximately 9:17 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Baltimore Street for a disturbance.  When officers arrived, they contacted the resident who reported that a male subject was inside and he was not allowed to be there.   Police contacted the male subject who provided officers with a false name.  The subject was later identified as Shawn Gladden.  Officers learned that Gladden was in violation of his pre-trial release conditions.  When officers went to place Gladden under arrest, he resisted and refused to cooperate with officers. …
