Attorney General Brown and Coalition Urge EPA to Finalize Proposed PFAS Drinking Water Standards

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, as part of a 17-state coalition, filed comments to the U.S. Environmental Protect Agency (EPA), supporting the agency’s proposal to set enforceable drinking water standards for six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances – more commonly known as PFAS or “forever” chemicals. In the proposed rule, EPA set Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL) and Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLG) for six PFAS chemicals regularly found in drinking water. Milton Place Shooter In Custody

On May 31, 2023, at 4:53 pm officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to Milton Place, Cumberland, for a report of a disturbance.  A short time later officers received a report of a man with a gunshot wound in a car on Baltimore Avenue. Upon arrival to the 400 block of Baltimore Avenue officers found a 68 year old male in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.  The male and other occupants reported that he had been in an altercation on Milton Place where he had been shot.  The man was treated by medics from the Cumberland…

Two arrested for assault on East Mary Street

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at approximately 10:14 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the first block of E. Mary Street for an assault.  Police contacted the residents and learned that an assault occurred between Alyssa Hockenberry and Rachael McKenzie.  Both parties sustained injuries from the altercation.  After further investigation, Hockenberry and McKenzie were placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking where they are currently being held pending their initial appearance before the court. Frederick Street assault arrest

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at approximately 6:49 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 300 block of Frederick Street for an assault.  Police contacted the occupants who explained that they had been in an argument which led to a physical altercation.  The alleged victim reported that she was assaulted by Michael Hochard.  Officers observed that the victim sustained injuries.  Hochard was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. Columbia Street assault arrest

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at approximately 8:33 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Columbia Street for an assault.  Police contacted the alleged victim who reported that she was assaulted by Jason Poling.  Officers observed that the victim sustained injuries.  Poling was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance. Hugh O’Brian Representatives Named

Five Allegany County students will attend the 41st annual Hugh O’Brian Youth Maryland Leadership Seminar in June.  Representatives are Miss Audrey Rader for Allegany High School, Miss Ciara Ross and Miss Rory Martz for Fort Hill, Miss Holly Levitt for Mountain Ridge, and Katie Kutcher of Bishop Walsh.  The seminar brings together student Ambassadors with leaders in business, government, and education, giving them a chance to discuss relevant issues including global education, volunteerism, media literacy, entrepreneurship, gratitude, leadership and motivation.
