Governor Wes Moore announced Thursday a series of initiatives and funding to fight crime, including the appointment of the first Black superintendent of the Maryland State Police. South Cumberland Robbery had schools on lockdown

Washington Middle, South Penn, and Fort Hill were on a lockdown status, due to a robbery, involving the possession of a gun, that took place in the Virginia Avenue area. The lockdown has since been lifted. Cumberland Police and other law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the robbery that occured near the Cascades Apartments on Fouth Street, 

Maryland Department of Health to provide free diabetes, blood pressure and COVID resources at CIAA Fan Fest

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) will provide free diabetes and hypertension assessment resources along with at-home COVID-19 tests at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Fan Fest on Friday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 25 from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center. The Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program is underway! Marylanders can start the process of enrolling in affordable health insurance by checking a box on their state tax return. Cumberland man charged in 3 killings, including his own brother, gets plea deal

Jeffrey Burnham preliminarily accepted a plea deal on Thursday  in connection with the 2021 killings of three people, including a Cumberland woman. A status conference held at Howard County Circuit Court included Burnham, his public defender, Josh Speert, and Howard County State's Attorney Richard Gibson. In Allegany County Burnham was charged with the September 29, 2021 killing of 83 year-old Rebecca Reynolds at her Fourth Street resident. Reynolds, who was shot to death, was a friend of Burnham’s mother. In Howard County, Burnham was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his brother Brian and Kelly Robinette. Disorderly Conduct arrest made at Greene Street business

On 02/23/2023 at approximately 7:00 PM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of Greene Street for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers contacted store security and they requested Samuel Resnick be removed from the property. Officers advised Resnick to leave the business but he started to yell and create a further disturbance. Resnick walked away but returned and began yelling again. Resnick was then placed under arrest and transported to the Police Station. Resnick was issued two Criminal Citations and released pending trial in District Court. Warrant Served

On 02/22/2023 the Cumberland City Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Autumn Stallings. The warrant was issued when Stallings failed to appear in District Court for a theft case. Stallings was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. Stallings appeared before a District Court Commissioner and was released on her personal recognizance. Tonight’s town hall meeting open to the general public

After being inundated with requests, tonight’s town hall meeting focusing on the construction expected to begin on the downtown mall will be open to the general public. Initially the plan had been to only allow downtown residents and business owners to attend as they have a vested interest, but city officials and members of the Downtown Development Commission have decided to open the session to anyone interested or who may have questions about the $15 million project and the expected 18 month construction period. Governor Justice will sign concealed carry bill to allow firearms on West Virginia public campuses

A bill that would allow people with concealed carry permits to bring firearms on West Virginia public college and university campuses is heading to the desk of Republican Governor Jim Justice. The bill passed a final hurdle in the GOP-dominated Legislature when the House of Delegates voted overwhelmingly in favor of the legsilation.
