Maryland Winter Olympics to have opening ceremony at Wisp Resort

The Special Olympics Maryland Winter Games return to Wisp this Sunday with opening ceremonies beginning at 7:30 a.m.  The games continue Monday and Tuesday with more than 200 events in alpine skiing and snowshoeing events. 

Judge rules Maryland attorney general’s child sex abuse report can be released

WBAL reports a redacted version of the Maryland attorney general's report into child sexual abuse at the Archdiocese of Baltimore can be released, a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge ruled Friday. Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown released a statement Friday afternoon, saying: "We are pleased with the court's order today permitting the interim release of a redacted version of the attorney general's report on the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Maryland Delegation Announces More than $34.8 Million for Public Housing Agencies

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Jamie Raskin, David Trone and Glenn Ivey (all D-Md.) today announced $34,824,846 in federal funding for Maryland public housing agencies. The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s FY 2023 Public Housing Capital Fund Formula Grant Awards. The awards were made available through the FY 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act, which Congress approved in December 2022. Unknown substance in the air in Hampshire County

A statement was released late Thursday night by the Hampshire County 911 Center addressing reports of an unknown substance in the air which is said to be accumulating on cars and other surfaces. The statement, which was also shared by the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, acknowledged reports of the mysterious substance having been observed throughout several states. “We are aware of recent reports of an unknown dust-like substance accumulating on cars and surfaces outside,” read the release. “This is reportedly occurring across the tri-state region.” The Hampshire County 911 Center additionally encouraged those planning to contact emergency services regarding the…

WV state and local agencies to investigate dust issue in the Eastern Panhandle

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) is working with state and local agencies to investigate large amounts of dust across multiple counties in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle. The WVDEP received reports late Thursday night about the dust and mobilized inspectors to the area to collect samples and identify potential sources. No obvious sources have been identified at this time. No shelter in place advisories have been issued for this area. Violation of a Protective Order arrest

On 02/23/2023 at approximately 10:00 PM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Baker Street for a violation of a protective order. Upon arrival officers contacted Michelle Porter inside the residence. Officers were informed that Porter had been served a protective order that ordered Porter not to be at that residence. Porter was placed under arrest and transported to the police station. Porter was then served a criminal summons for violating the protective order on 02/22/2023. On 02/22/2023 Porter had entered the same residence, destroyed property, and fled prior to police arriving. Porter was transported…

Glenn Street assault arrest

On 02/23/2023 at approximately 6:30 PM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Glenn Street for an assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim and learned they were assaulted by Brandon Barnard. Officers observed visible injuries on the victim consistent with the assault. Barnard was placed under arrest without issue. Barnard was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. Town Hall meeting on Downtown Mall Redesign answers questions

City officials and members of the construction team answered a number of questions ranging from free parking to construction timelines and interruptions in public utility Services during last night's Town hall meeting. Jane’s Place now under State’s Attorney Office

The Allegany County Board of Commissioners on Thursday approved a memorandum of understanding between the office of the States Attorney and the child advocacy operation, Friends of Jane’s Place. As part of the proposed restructuring, Jane’s Place representatives requested $55,000 to help fund a full-time director and part-time program coordinator. Located at 26 Greene St., Jane’s Place, established in 2008, is a nonprofit dedicated to providing a child-friendly environment committed to reducing trauma to children who have been abused, neglected or sexually assaulted and provide them space where they can begin to heal. Lack of construction activity on the Rolling Mill project raises questions

There has been a visable lack of  construction activity on the Rolling Mill project in the past month- and questions are starting to be raised about the status of the now eight year-old effort.
