Allegany College Volleyball Opens September 3

The Allegany College of Maryland Lady Trojan volleyball team is ready to start their new season this week with a home opener.  Head coach Joseph Brewer leads the Trojans, now in his fourth season, and assistant coach Lindsey Fisher.  This year’s team includes two returning players and six recruits from local high schools Allegany, Bishop Walsh, Calvary Christian, Fort Hill, and Mountain Ridge.  The season opens this Wednesday at 6pm against the Community College of Beaver County.

Humpty Dumpty Celebrating Local Teacher

The Humpty Dumpty Learning Center in Cumberland is celebrating a teacher with 50 years of educating local children. Mrs Twigg wiil be honored during an open house on Sunday, September 28th from 2 till 4 p.m. at the school. BENCH WARRANT SERVED

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Brittany Murphy.  The warrant was issued as the result of Murphy failing to appear in court on an original charge of CDS: Possess Paraphernalia.  Murphy was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where she is currently being held pending her initial appearance before the court. Queen City Drive Arrest

On Saturday, August 30, 2025 at approximately 1:00 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department was patrolling Queen City Drive when he observed Christopher Freeman in possession of an open alcohol container.  Freeman was then seen consuming the contents and throwing the container on the ground.  The officer contacted Freeman, placed him under arrest for littering, and transported him to police headquarters.  Freeman was very uncooperative during the arrest process and refused to listen to officers.  He was then transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing and remanded to…

Critics slam nonprofit funding of $15 Million in Baltimore

A decision by Maryland's Board of Public Works to allocate $15 million in state funding to nonprofit organizations in Baltimore has sparked debate among lawmakers. Funding is intended to combat violence and develop housing in the city with $2 million for Baltimore's Downtown Partnership, $6.1 million for 'We Our Us', $3 million for 'Rebuild Metro', and nearly $9.5 million for other nonprofits in the city of Baltimore.  

Experimental Aircraft Association Breakfast Today

The Experimental Aircraft Association is having its breakfast at the Cumberland Airport’s Chapter House, beginning at 8am. Hotcakes, sausage gravy, fried potatoes and fruit cocktails are on the menu. Maryland Observes International Overdose Awareness Day

Governor Wes Moore issued a proclamation today in honor of August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day. Flags will be lowered to half-staff, and Government House will be lit purple Sunday evening in remembrance of individuals who have lost their lives to drug overdoses. “As we pause to remember the loved ones we have lost to overdoses in Maryland, we join others across the country in demanding continued action to reduce overdoses and increase access to substance use care,“ said Gov.
