On Thursday, December 22nd, 2022, the Cumberland City Police responded to a residence in the 100 block of High Lane for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victims and witnesses of the alleged assault. The subjects advised that a verbal altercation broke out inside the home between the residents. During the argument, a victim pulled out a phone in an attempt to record the incident. On Thursday, December 22nd, 2022, the Cumberland City Police arrested Larry Lee Selby, 65, of Frederick MD. Selby was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Frederick County District Court. The warrant alleged that Selby failed to appear in court on October 13th, 2016, on a previous charge of Loitering. Snow began falling before dawn Thursday in Allegany County as the front end of a two-day Arctic blast that was expected to batter the region Friday night with single-digit temperatures and winds gusting up to 50 mph. Essentially closed since 2016, there remains no movement on efforts to replace the Washington Street Bridge. While plans and timelines have been established to repair and replace the other two deteriorating West Side bridges on Fayette and Cumberland streets- the Washington Street span is more complicated.
