Timbrooks Purchase Lila Building
One of the oldest and tallest buildings in Cumberland has been sold, with the new owners looking at a variety of uses for the structure. Pastor Fred Timbrook and his wife Kristen have purchased the Lila Building at 81-83 Baltimore Street and an adjacent parking lot. The six story building, for many years, housed Liberty Bank . The transaction to buy the building from Global Marketing Systems was finalized at the end of June. Romney man arrested over alleged Twitter terror threats
The Cumberland Times News reports a Romney man remained jailed Thursday, two days after he was arrested for allegedly making terrorist threats on Twitter against Gov. Jim Justice, Vice President Kamala Harris and other elected officials over the state's abortion issue, according to the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security. Michael Edward Herman, 35, was apprehended during a traffic stop on U.S. Route 50 in the Augusta area. He was being held Thursday at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in lieu of $30,012 full cash bond. The arrest warrant was issued in Kanawha County. UPDATE: Unidentified Man reunited with Family
Maryland State Police are asking for the public’s assistance identifying a man who was found last week walking alone along a Baltimore County highway. At 9 p.m. on July 22, troopers responded to reports of a white male who was walking alone on Interstate 795 in the area of Owings Mills Boulevard in Baltimore County. The man, who was described as having a slim build and was only wearing black shorts, required medical attention and was unable to remember his name or contact information for family members. Gov. Justice declares State of Emergency for six counties
Gov. Jim Justice today declared a State of Emergency for Fayette, Greenbrier, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming counties after severe thunderstorms with associated heavy rains and high winds this week caused significant local flooding, downed trees, power outages, disruption to potable water systems, and road blockages. As part of this State of Emergency declaration, the Governor has directed the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) to implement the West Virginia Emergency Operations Plan as necessary, mobilize appropriate personnel and resources to respond to the emergency, and facilitate the provision of essential emergency services.
Water Main Replacement will impact Monday Traffic
Beginning Monday, August 1 the City of Cumberland Water Department will be replacing the 6" water main on Avondale Avenue from Williams Street to Kent Avenue. NO PARKING signs will be placed in active work zones during working hours. Please plan to take alternate routes. Parking will be limited throughout the duration of the project.
Bob Thompson, longtime educator, passes at 65
Bob Thompson, a longtime teacher and music director and the husband of WCBC’s Andee Thompson, passed away early Thursday morning following a brief illness. Born in Keyser, utlimately moved to Cumberland where he taught 42 years in the local school system at Washington Middle and later Fort Hill High School. Bob was a graduate of Bruce High School Class of 1975, and also graduated from Potomac State College and Fairmont State University. He recently retired from Allegany County Public Schools. While working at Fort Hill he served as the Choral and Drama Director and was also the Sentinelette Advisor for several years.Friends will be…
