Gov. Justice announces Form Energy will partner with West Virginia creating hundreds of jobs

Gov. Jim Justice announced today that Form Energy, Inc. (Form Energy) will partner with the State of West Virginia to build its first iron-air battery manufacturing facility on 55 acres of property in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, along the Ohio River, in the city of Weirton. The new battery manufacturing plant is expected to create a minimum of 750 new full-time jobs and will represent a total investment of up to $760 million.   

BENCH WARRANT SERVED

On Friday, December 23, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Zachary Crawford.  The warrant was issued as the result of Crawford failing to comply with an order of the court.  He was originally charged with Threat of Mass Violence, Dangerous Weapon-Conceal, Disturbing the Peace, Fail to Obey a Reasonable & Lawful Order, and two counts of Disorderly Conduct.  Crawford was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. Md. crossing guard honored at State House for nearly 50 years of service

Charles Jenkins, a longtime crossing guard in Talbot County, Maryland, was recognized by Gov. Larry Hogan for 48 years on the job this week. Jenkins was presented a Governor’s Citation at the State House. He helps students get across the street safely in Easton during the school week, and in St. Michaels on the weekends, where tens of thousands of visitors are often walking through the town, which has no traffic light.

Demand high, supply low in Maryland for children’s pain relievers

Demand is so high for children's pain relievers and fever reducers that supplies are very low across Maryland. Supplies are short because demand is unprecedented, according to the Consumer Healthcare Products Association. Strong wind gusts cause power outages, downed trees across Maryland

As wind gusts strengthened on Friday, power outages and downed tress have been reported across Maryland. WBAL reports temperatures dropped by as much as 17 degrees since early Friday morning as an Arctic front sweeps through Maryland. Wind gusts are around 40-50 mph, and the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory, saying gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Some Mineral County employees to get raises in the New Year

Raises are coming in the new year for some Mineral County workers. The Cumberland Times News reports officers of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office will get a $2,000 raise in the new year after the county commission approved it during its Tuesday meeting. Last month, the commission also approved $2,000 raises for courthouse employees, excluding elected officials and County Coordinator Luke McKenzie.

Cardin, Van Hollen announce Federal Funds for Western Maryland

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) announced that they have secured $35,694,377 in direct federal funding for local projects in Western Maryland within the fiscal year 2023 omnibus funding legislation, which they voted to pass yesterday. The projects encompass a wide array of local and regional priorities, ranging from public safety to infrastructure improvements to community and workforce development. Overall, the Senators included over $200 million in federal dollars directly for Maryland within the legislation.

Accidents, Downed Power Lines across the region

A vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 68 and reports of lines down in Frostburg and Knobley Road in nearby Mineral County, West Virginia, pressed volunteer first-responders into service shortly after daybreak Friday upon arrival of a much-anticipated Arctic front.
