Convoy expected in Allegany County Friday afternoon
Over the past week, Law Enforcement has been monitoring several truck convoys en route to the Washington DC area. There is a potential that the People’s Convoy will travel through Allegany County by way of eastbound lanes of I68 and if so, it could disrupt traffic in our area. The information that the sheriff's department has now is that the convoy is estimated at 40 miles in length and contains over 2500 vehicles. Westernport Drug Arrest
On Tuesday troopers from the McHenry Barrack responded to a residence in Westernport, MD in an attempt to serve several outstanding arrests warrants on Justin Allen Donnelly. At the residence Troopers located Donnelly, at which time he was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants. Upon searching Donnelly Troopers discovered that Donnelly was in possession of controlled dangerous substances, that included heroin and fentanyl. Donnelly was subsequently charged with possession of heroin, possession of fentanyl and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Donnelly was subsequently transported to the Allegany County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.

City Man Arrested on Disorderly Conduct
On Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at approximately 9:40 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Frederick Street regarding a male subject pointing a firearm at oncoming traffic. An officer observed the described male walking on Frederick Street pointing an object which appeared to be a handgun. The subject was identified as Christopher Maistros. Officers ordered Maistors to stop and put his hands in the air to which he complied. After further investigation, no handgun was located. The object that Maistros had been pointing was determined to be a flashlight. Maistros was arrested for disorderly conduct…
Police Make Assault Arrest
On Monday, February 28, 2022 at approximately 9:30 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Virginia Avenue for an assault. The caller reported that a male subject had climbed into a vehicle and assaulted the occupants. Upon officers’ arrival, numerous bystanders directed officers to the vehicle. The male suspect was identified as Joshua Wright. The victims reported that they did not know Wright. Officers ordered Wright to exit the vehicle and that he was under arrest. However, he refused. Mason Complex recommended as site for new Skate Park
Cumberland City Administrator Jeff Silka last night recommended that the city pursue using the Mason Sports Complex for the long talked about skate park. Silka said a group of city department heads considered Jaycee Field, Constitution Park and the Mason Complex… Funding for the project has not yet been secured, but it was pointed out that grants for the project would require a proposed location.
State Budget Surplus in West Virginia
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice yesterday announced another 60 million dollar surplus, this time for the month of February. Noting that finishing months in the green had become routine, WCBC’s Paul Mullan asked Governor Justice if he had identified where he would like to see the money used… Justice said that any final determination wouldn’t take place until he consults with legislative and other leaders across the state.
Allegany County BOE Votes to Change Mask Mandate
The Allegany County Board of Education voted Tuesday 3-2 to change the mask requirement for students from mandatory to optional beginning Wednesday, March 2. Board Members Crystal Bender, Bob Farrell and David Bohn voted to approve the recomendation of Superintendant Jeff Blank, with Debra Frank and Tammy Fraley opposed. Justice Bans Russian Liquor
Governor Jim Justice announced today that he has signed an Executive Order which directs the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration (ABCA) to cease the purchase and sale of all Russian produced liquor until further notice. The Governor also directed the WVABCA Commissioner to order and make Ukrainian made liquor brands available for purchase by licensed retail liquor outlets depending on their availability. West Virginia currently distributes four brands of Russian liquor: Russian Standard, Beluga Vodka, Moskovskaya, and Hammer & Sickle Russian Vodka.
