COVID Shutdowns Affecting Math Proficiency

85% of students in Maryland are not proficient in math and large part due to COVID-19 shutdowns over the past 2 years. Results from a recent state test score revealed a stunning amount of learning loss. It appears that the harm done to students by closing down schools is now apparent with the scores from the 2021 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment program.The first standardized state test students have taken since the beginning of the pandemic showing dire numbers in proficiency. Sheriff’s Deputies Make Drug Bust at LaVale Sheetz

On March 13, 2022, at approximately 1306 Hours, deputies were dispatched to Sheetz located in Lavale Maryland for a report of a red vehicle with Arkansas registration almost striking several vehicles in the parking lot. When the first deputy arrived on scene, he observed a male seated in the driver’s seat of a red colored sedan bearing Arkansas registration. The deputy exited his patrol vehicle and made contact with the operator who initially provided deputies with a false name to avoid apprehension.Subsequently a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, located in the vehicle were multiple bags of methamphetamine….

Eastbound 68 Rollover Injures Three

Three people were taken to UPMC Western Maryland, one by Trooper 5. Maryland State Police is investigating. INITIALREPORT: Police, Fire, EMS and Trooper 5 Medevac have been sent to Eastbound Interstate 68 near Frostburg for a vehicle accident. The Joint Communications Center of Allegany County says the mishap occurred near Exit 34 at around noon.

Local WV Covid Cases Dwindle

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of March 11, 2022, there are currently 1,432 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been six deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,550 deaths attributed to COVID-19. Justice Pushes $5 Mil Plan to Help Ukrainian Hospital

Following his address yesterday on America’s energy crisis and the war in Ukraine, Gov. Jim Justice sent a letter requesting that the West Virginia Legislature join him in pledging $5 million in assistance for the Ukrainian maternity and children’s hospital recently bombed by Russian military forces. DNR Extends Muskrat Trapping Season
