WV Man Charged in Capitol Riot Denied Bond

A federal judge has denied bond for the Morgantown restaurant owner charged in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. George Tanios is accused of assaulting three police officers at the scene. Washington, D.C. District Judge Thomas Hogan denied bond for both Tanios and his childhood friend co-defendant Juliane Khater of Pennsylvania. Hogan said despite minimal criminal history, the pair planned in advance their trip to the Capitol and it was clear they intended to assault Capitol Police. Tanios is not charged in the death of an officer who later died as the result of a stroke.

I-70 Closed following accident

A multi vehicle accident has Interstate 70 closed just past exit 81A. Crews are on the scene. No word on any injuries

Man Arrested on Destruction of Property

On Monday May 10th, 2021 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Jackson Street address for a reported disturbance. Upon officers arrival they observed Clayton Harlee Bennich to kick a window to the residence causing it to break. Bennich then ran to the rear of the residence yelling and creating a disturbance.  Officers placed Bennich under arrest and he was later released on Criminal Citations pending his trial at District Court.   Arrest: Clayton Harlee Bennich, age 18, Cumberland Maryland Charges: Destruction of Property, Disturbing the Peace.

ACPS Graduation Set for May 26th

Allegany County Public Schools will hold outdoor graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, with May 27th and 28th serving as rain dates if necessary. Students at all three comprehensive high schools will participate in asynchronous virtual learning that day. Frostburg State University Sets Virtual Commencement

Frostburg State University will recognize its spring 2021 graduates with a virtual commencement celebration on Friday, May 14, on the FSU website at www.frostburg.edu/commencement. Last week, graduates had an opportunity to participate in a “grad walk” featuring FSU President Ronald Nowaczyk offering individual graduate recognition as students crossed the stage. Cumberland Police Announce Summer Youth Camp

The Cumberland Police Department Summer Youth Camp will take place on Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, 2021 from 8am to 4pm each day.  The camp will be held at the Salvation Army on Somerville Avenue in Cumberland.  The summer youth camp is held in cooperation with the Salvation Army as well as many local businesses.
