Goucher Poll Measure MD Senator Approval Ratings
The new Goucher Poll released this week measured approval ratings for Maryland's two U.S. senators. The poll found 44% either approve or strongly approve the job Senator Chris Van Hollen is doing. That number, unchanged from a February 2017 poll, which was the last time Van Hollen's approval rating was measured. Incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin's approval rating stands at 46% in the Goucher Poll, up from 45% in the 2017 poll. Van Hollen is up for election next year, while Cardin does not face reelection until 2024. AHEC West Partnering with Pharmacare to Host Vax Clinic Downtown
AHEC West is partnering with Pharmacare, the nursing program at Allegany College of Maryland and volunteers from Cumberland COVID Watch to host a COVID-19 vaccination and testing clinic Tuesday afternoon on the downtown Cumberland Mall. Allegany County Public Schools issued the following statement after this afternoon's fatal stabbing near Fort Hill High School: Today, Thursday, October 28, 2021, after dismissal from Fort Hill High School, an incident occurred off of school grounds at the alley entrance between Warwick and Williams Streets. Following the incident, the victim re-entered school grounds where medical assistance was immediately provided for injuries sustained in the incident. Maryland State Police ready for Halloween Weekend
Maryland State Police are gearing up for the Halloween weekend with additional troopers on patrol using a variety of initiatives to urge both motorists and pedestrians to use common sense, take responsibility and be more courteous on Maryland’s roadways. I-68 is closed eastbound prior to the Maryland Avenue exit due to a truck fire. Please use an alternative route as the Interstate will be closed for an extended period of time. Allegany County COVID-19 Update
The Allegany County Health Department still has several appointment slots available for Tuesday, November 2 and Wednesday, November 3 for Moderna COVID vaccine boosters. Those clinics will take place in the Multipurpose Building at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. Individuals seeking a Moderna booster at the clinics must pre-register for an appointment online at health.maryland.gov/allegany, be at least six months out from their last dose of COVID vaccine, and fall into one of these classifications: age 65+; age 18+ living in a long-term care setting; age 18+ with underlying medical conditions; or age 18+ working in a high-risk setting. Fire Reported in Lakewood Overnight
Over 12 fire companies responded to a house fire in Lakewood late Wednesday night. Mineral County 911 Center dispatched crews to the scene at approximately 11:32pm. Eyewitness accounts reported a fully-engulfed structure. The fire was reported under control at approximately 12:30 a.m. There were no injuries reported at the scene. WCBC news has just confirmed that the house fire earlier this morning in Lakewood was the property of Bill and Linda Freas, a local prominent businessman.
