Maryland panel OKs 5 sports betting licenses at casinos

A Maryland commission approved in-person sports betting licenses at five casinos on Thursday, with some commissioners expressing concern about moving forward without yet granting licenses to minority- or women-owned businesses. The Sports Wagering Application Review Commission voted 5-2 for the licenses at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin. It paves the way for wagers to be made at the facilities, potentially in time for this winter's NFL playoffs

The Allegany County Commissioners are proud to partner with Jones Development Company, LLC, to build a 193,000 square foot distribution center on 40 acres of privately owned land on Maryland Route 51. Three Frostburg State University Employees Given Staff Awards for Excellence

Frostburg State University recently honored Patrick O’Brien, Crystal Miller and William Patterson with Staff Awards for Excellence. The annual Staff Awards for Excellence recognize exceptional service to the institution. Recipients are nominated and chosen by their colleagues.  O’Brien, director of the Office of Civic Engagement, was honored in the Exempt (salaried) Employee category. He has worked at FSU since 2008. Vaccine Milestone in Maryland

Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the State of Maryland has surpassed 9 million COVID-19 vaccinations. “We have now administered our nine millionth vaccine as part of one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in the country,” said Governor Hogan. “The state has a robust network of providers, and we continue to have both the supply and the capacity to provide a vaccine or a booster shot to anyone who needs one. Allegany County Public School will now be identifying the vaccination status of all employees

In a memo sent to Allegany County Public School employees yesterday outline is the Emergency Temporary Standards authorized by OSHA for employees with a 100 or more employees be required to be vaccinated or provide weekly test for non fully vaccinated in place by January 4th. Allegany County Public Schools will now be identifying the vaccination status of all employees the first step to comply with the ETS. All employees are required to declare their vaccination status to the Human Resources office, the deadline to enter employee information is November 24th. Police Make Shoplifting Arrest

On November 17th, 2021 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Park Street business in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with a business representative who advised that Michelle Lynn Sarver had exited the business without paying for several items. Sarver was located and issued a criminal citation for theft. She was then released, and awaits her trial at District Court. Arrest: Michelle Lynn Sarver, age 49, Cumberland Maryland. Charges: Theft $100-$1,500.

Police Make Arrest After Disturbance Call

On November 17th, 2021 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 block of East Industrial Boulevard for a reported disturbance. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the complainant who advised that Reginel Dechalus would not leave the residence. Officers were able to have Decahlus leave the residence, and ordered him not to return. A short time later officers responded back to the residence where Dechalus had returned. Decahlus was placed under arrest for failing to obey a lawful order and trespassing. He was later released on criminal citations, and awaits his trial at District Court.   Arrest:…

Delegate Neil Parrott, a Washington County Republican, made it official on Wednesday- announcing that he will once again be a candidate for Maryland’s Sixth District Congressional seat. Parrott made stops in Oakland, Cumberland, Hagerstown, Frederick and Germantown appearing before groups of supporters and outlining his campaign themes.
