Frankfort Athletics has a Banner Year in 2024

It was a banner year in 2024 for Frankfort athletics and soon they will have the hardware to prove it.  Banners to honor the state champion baseball and football teams are on the way and will soon be hoisted in the gym at Frankfort high school.  Frankfort's football team went 14-0 this past season and captured the first football state title in school history, defeating Roane County in the state final 49-14.  WCBC Sports spoke with football head coach Kevin Whiteman who noted a number of changes were coming to the Falcons 2025 football schedule.  New additions to the Falcons schedule…

National Weather Service a WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING… Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches in portions of central, north central, northern, and western Maryland, northern and northwest Virginia, and panhandle West Virginia until this evening. The hazardous conditions will impact travel. Snow will overspread the area this morning and continue through the afternoon before tapering off during the evening. Snowfall rates could approach 1 inch an hour at times. Trespassing Arrest Made on Washington St.

On Friday, January 17, 2025 at approximately 5:00 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a facility in the 100 block of Washington Street for a trespassing complaint.  When police arrived, they contacted an employee who advised that she observed an unknown male subject inside the building.  The suspect then fled the property. Officers located the suspect on Beall Street and identified him as Samuel Goetz. He was arrested and issued a criminal citation.  Goetz was then released pending trial. Commanders Head to NFC Championship Game

Rookie Jayden Daniels is leading the Washington football franchise to a place it hasn't been since 1991: the NFC Championship game.  Daniels led the Commanders over the Detroit Lions Saturday night 45-31 in Detroit.  Washington hasn't made it this far in the playoffs since the 1991 season, which saw the then-Redskins defeat the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI 37-24.  The Commanders will take on the winners of the Eagles-Rams game with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line next Sunday on WCBC. 

Congresswoman Delaney Touts Potential of Western Maryland

Congresswoman April McClain Delaney made her first appearance at the PACE reception as an elected member of Congress.  Speaking at Friday’s breakfast, Delaney pledged to be available to her constituents.

Senator Van Hollen Supports Continued Funding for ARC

United States Senator Chris Van Hollen was a featured speaker at Friday’s PACE breakfast in Annapolis.  Van Hollen said that Congress supports the continuation of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Governor Moore Strongly Backs Edwards Fund

Maryland Governor Wes Moore attended the PACE breakfast Friday morning in Annapolis and he stopped by the WCBC booth before delivering his formal remarks.  The governor said his budget goals include cutting ineffective programs but keeping strong ones like the George C. Edwards Fund.  The governor added that he believes strongly in the Western Maryland program.

Bond Street Trespassing, Fail to Obey a Reasonable & Lawful Order arrest

On Friday, January 17, 2025 at approximately 6:52 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Bond Street for a trespassing complaint involving Robert Rodriquez.  Rodriquez had just been arrested at approximately 4:25 AM for trespassing on the same property.  He had been released on a criminal citation and ordered not to return to the residence.  When police arrived, they contacted Rodriquez on the front porch of the residence.  He was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and held at the Allegany County…
