Medevac Lands on Bay Bridge
A crash on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Friday morning involved the landing of a Medevac helicopter on the bridge. The crash happened at 11:30 a.m. when a car crashed into a tractor trailer. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Rabid Sheep in West Virginia
A case of rabies has been confirmed in a sheep on a Monroe County farm in West Virginia. The Monroe County Health Department confirmed the sheep tested positive for the dreaded viral ailment on Wednesday. The animal was located on a farm in the Gap Mills area of the county.
City Police Report for Saturday
On Friday, July 4, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on William Dibuono. The originating incident occurred on February 14, 2025, when Dibuono was arrested for trespassing. Search incident to arrest yielded a controlled dangerous substance and associated controlled paraphernalia. A criminal summons was issued for Dibuono. He was served with the summons and released pending his trial at the Allegany County District Court. House Fire on Virginia Avenue
Cumberland fire crews have responded to Virginia Avenue for a house fire. It is now a second alarm assignment. The fire is in the 200 block and Virginia Avenue is closed between Second and Third Streets.
F.O.P. Endorses Morgan
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 144 has announced it is endorsing Dave Morgan for the office of Sheriff of Allegany County. The announcement came along with a derby day car dubbed "Deputies For Dave" ran in the annual Frostburg Elks event. A release from the F.O.P. stated that while candidates Dave Morgan and Rich Godlove have a similar number of years in law enforcement, Morgan's experience with the Sheriff's office shows an advantage. The announcement came from lodge president Chris Hill.
Fayette Street Assault Arrest
On July 4th, 2025 at approximately 12:57 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 500 block of Fayette Street for an assault. Upon arrival officers made contact with Ricky Allen Broadwater. Broadwater advised that there had been an assault and the other party had left the scene. Officers interviewed Broadwater and then made contact with the other party. The other party advised that they were grabbed by Broadwater while they were sleeping, while speaking with them the officer observed bruising and fresh blood on the victim's arm. Trespassing Arrest
On July 3rd, 2025 at approximately 10:24 a.m., an officer from the Cumberland Police Department was patrolling in the area of Canal Place when they observed Frank Leonard Nicol enter upon CSX property that was clearly and conspicuously posted "No Trespassing." Nicol was issued a criminal citation for trespassing on posted property and released pending trial at District Court. UPMC Implements Protocols for Treating Xylazine Wounds
UPMC is among the first health systems to implement protocols for treating patients with xylazine wounds. UPMC clinicians developed protocols for managing hospitalized patients exposed to xylazine—a veterinary sedative found in the unregulated opioids. The team created guidelines from admission to discharge. The guidelines help recognize symptoms earlier, coordinate treatment, and manage complex wounds.
Congresswoman Releases Statement on Bill Passage
Maryland’s sixth-district congresswoman April McClain-Delaney released a statement reacting to the passage of HR-1, the Trump spending bill. She said the bill will hurt her Maryland constituents in a number of ways including cuts to Medicaid coverage and SNAP funding. Delaney said rural hospitals will lose 21 cents of every Medicaid dollar. She also indicated the legislation also guts the Child Tax Credit by making 1 in 4 children in our district ineligible for the full benefit.
Karns Avenue Assault Arrest
On July 4th, 2025 at approximately 12:35 a.m., officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to Karns Avenue for an assault. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim who advised that Rachel Renee Harper had struck them in the face. The officers were able to see visible injuries on the victim's face. They contacted Harper who admitted to striking the victim. She was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking where she is currently awaiting a bail review.
