Warrant Arrests June 16
Shawn Holloway Jr., was served a Circuit Court Body-Attachment warrant for Failure to Appear for a Child Support hearing. Holloway was released after posting $100 bond. Brittany Jewell Gunning, 35 of Cumberland (formerly Frostburg), was placed on the Most Wanted List on 6/16/25, and then turned herself in to the Sheriff’s Office where she was served a Circuit Court Grand Jury Indictment. Her charges include: CDS: Possession With Intent to Distribute, CDS Distribution-Narcotics and CDS: Possession-Not Cannabis. She is being held without bond pending a bail review in Circuit Court.
CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On Monday, June 16, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Brandon Clark. The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on May 1, 2025 when officers responded to a residence in the 1500 block of E. Oldtown Rd. for an assault. The officers contacted an alleged victim who explained that he had been assaulted by Brandon Clark. After further investigation, police filed for charges against Clark at the District Court of Allegany County. Clark signed for his copy of the summons and he was released pending trial. Sports Betting Had Fifth-Best Month
Maryland’s sports wagering outlets had the fifth-best single month performance in May of 2025. Sports bettors wagered $504.4 million dollars in May and won back $438.1 million in prizes. Operators paid 15% of their taxable proceeds to the state which amounted to $7.7 million for May. That money goes toward the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund which supports education programs. For May, mobile users were the wagering winner with $494 million placed while retail outlets did $102 million in bets.
Gas Line Extension Cost Will Pass to Customer
The Maryland Public Service Commission, as part of its “Future of Gas” proceedings has said that new customers wishing to extend gas service lines to their properties will foot the bill. Previously, customers were connected for free or at a discount, essentially subsidized by existing customers. The PSC said that encouraging more natural gas production is inconsistent with the Climate Solutions Act passed in the state and new customers should pay the actual cost of obtaining the service.
Springdale Street Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct Arrest
On Monday, June 16, 2025 at approximately 10:49 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 400 block of Springdale Street for an assault in progress. Upon arrival, officers contacted and separated the parties involved. Officers learned that there had been a dispute about illegal fireworks being discharged in the neighborhood. It was also reported by two alleged victims that they had been assaulted by Jaquan Albright. Albright was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking. West Virginia Flood Recovery Begins
Almost a repeat of what happened in the Georges Creek area in mid-May struck Fairmont, West Virginia over the weekend. Heavy rains dumped several inches in a short time, flooding the Locust Avenue area near Fairmont State University. An apartment building collapsed but no injuries were reported. ACPS High Schools Receive Distinguished Status
All three high schools in Allegany County have been recognized as Project Lead The Way Distinguished schools. The three are among a select group to be recognized for their commitment to inspire and engage students in the PLTW Biomedical Science Program. The program introduces students to medicine and human body systems as well as biomedical science careers. The school system has 340 students enrolled throughout the county.
Design Selected for Route 219 Completion
A design has been selected to complete Route 219 to the Maryland line from Pennsylvania. The design consists of a four-lane roadway in a new location to the east of existing US Route 219 and bypassing Salisbury, Pennsylvania. The decision was made following analysis of impacts on the environment, comments received from the public, and input from resource agencies. The public has through the first week of July to make comments on the proposed route.
Library Summer Kick-Off
The Allegany County Library System is launching their “Summer With Our Library” program on Wednesday at Hoffman Park in Frostburg. All area libraries will be closing early for the event.
