BENCH WARRANTS SERVED On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Nicholas Craig. One warrant was issued as the result of Craig failing to appear in court on an original charge of Burglary-4th Degree-Dwelling. The other warrant was issued due to Craig violating probation on an original charge of Malicious Destruction of Property $1,000+. Craig was arrested and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing. At the conclusion, he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on two $500 bonds. Attorney General Anthony G. Brown won a court order stopping the Trump administration’s attempts to dismantle the Department of Education (ED). On March 13, Attorney General Brown joined a coalition of 20 other attorneys general in challenging the administration’s plans to eliminate 50 percent of ED’s workforce, “immediately” transfer student loan management and special education services to other agencies, and ultimately close the Department. Attorney General Brown and the coalition sought a preliminary injunction to immediately stop the mass layoffs and transfer of services. On Friday, May 23, 2025, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a summons on Hillary Parker. The summons was issued as a result of an incident where Parker was found to be contributing to the conditions of a child. Officers located Parker, and she was served with the summons. On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Allegany College of Maryland proudly celebrated the achievements of its graduating class during the Spring Commencement Ceremony held at the iconic Bob Kirk Arena on the Cumberland campus. Governor Wes Moore today issued a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, known as FEMA, to conduct Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments in areas of Western Maryland that were recently impacted by severe flooding. Flood recovery aid is becoming available for residents and businesses impacted by the May 13, 2025, flooding in Garrett County and the surrounding region. As recovery efforts continue, both regional and federal partners are stepping in to provide critical financial support. One of the first programs launched is from the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland (TCC), which is now offering flood recovery loans to businesses in Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties.
