Dans Mountain Pool Set to Open May 31

Due to unseasonably cool temperatures over Memorial Day weekend, Dans Mountain Pool has delayed opening until May 31.  Hours for the season will be 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.  The pool will be closed June 2 through June 6, due to lifeguards' school schedules.

LOCK YOUR VEHICLES

The Cumberland Police Department would like to strongly encourage the citizens of Cumberland to lock their vehicles and to not leave valuable items in them when they are unattended.  Leaving a vehicle unlocked presents an easy opportunity for thieves to quickly steal items without detection.  

Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade is back in Cumberland

Cumberland’s Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade is today in historic downtown Cumberland. Sponsored by County United Way, Let's Beautify Cumberland and co-sponsors Cumberland Times-News and WCBC Radio. Cumberland Composite Squadron Competes

Battlefield Tours Available

The American Battlefield Trust has a full schedule of tours, hikes and lecture offerings in-person and online to engage budding and seasoned historians alike throughout 2025.  Featured battlefields include Antietam in Sharpsburg and the Gettysburg National Battlefield.    “We’ve got some of the biggest experts on the subjects leading these tours. Some are a little easier, more moderate some driving and some moderate walking along the battlefields while others are pretty challenging, doing steep inclines.”

Changes to Traffic and Parking for Memorial Day Parade and Service

Memorial Day Parade and Celebration will take place on today, May 26th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. To ensure the safety of attendees and minimize traffic disruptions, several temporary changes to the downtown traffic pattern and parking will be implemented. These measures will help maintain smooth traffic flow while accommodating the event. Father Gregory Chervenak Leaving Our Lady of the Mountains Parish

Father Gregory Chervenak, the pastor of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish in Cumberland since its formation, announced that he is leaving later this summer.  Father Greg made the announcement at the end of weekend Masses.  The parish was formed in 2011 and consolidated five Catholic parishes in Allegany County.  During his tenure, difficult decisions were made regarding the closing of St. Ambrose in Cresaptown and St. Patrick's in Mount Savage.  While weekday Masses continue at Saints Peter and Paul, weekend Masses are now held only at St. Mary's and St. Patrick's, both in Cumberland.  A new pastor will be named in the…

U.S. Route 219 Reopens in Somerset County

There’s good news from the state of Pennsylvania.  U.S. Route 219 has reopened less than two weeks after flooding damaged a bridge just north of Salisbury.  The state has erected a temporary bridge to restore local traffic.

Allegany Baseball Wins State Title

The Allegany Campers erupted for five runs in the 4th inning Saturday to defeat St. Michaels, 6-2, in the state title game at Bowie.  Coach Jonathan Irons led the Campers to their first title since 1990.  The team finished the season at 18-4 and won 15 of its last 16 games.

Gospel Bluegrass Airs Today
