WMSR Celebrates Memorial Day Weekend

Multi-Agency Resource Centers In Georges Creek

Courtney Thomas, Director of Social Services for Allegany County shared information with WCBC about Multi-Agency Resource Centers operating in Lonaconing and Westernport. Final Bill Signing In Annapolis

One-Stop Permit Portal For Building

Thanks to legislation passed in April, the state of West Virginia is creating a one-stop-shop portal for building permits. Governor Patrick Morrisey says it may not be something that gets much attention, but easy access to permits is important to businesses looking to build or expand in the state…     “Imagine if you can go to one portal in West Virginia, and you can access all the permitting tools – all the permits you have to file to be compliant to get to work right away in West Virginia. Bishop Walsh Athletic Awards Night

Ocean City Bans Tents and May Set Rules for Canopies

Following the example set by nearby Dewey Beach, Delaware, the Ocean City council has banned tents on the beach and may set restrictions on canopies.  The canopies are a favorite of large families and groups at the beach.  The council may rule that canopies cannot be set up prior to the lifeguards reporting at 9 a.m.

Local Pools Targeting May 31 for Opening

Weather forecasts for brisk and possibly rainy conditions have caused a delay in the opening of area swimming pools.  Both the Frostburg Pool and Dan's Mountain have set May 31 as the opening day.  In Cumberland, a ruptured water liner has set the date at May 31 at the earliest.

Man Held in Murder of Brother

A Keyser man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing his brother over the weekend in Mineral County.  According to law enforcement, 67-year-old Michael Wayne Myers contacted 911 on May 18 to report that his brother had been shot and was dead. When dispatchers inquired whether the shooting was self-inflicted, Myers reportedly said he would explain the circumstances when authorities arrived.  Deputies from the Mineral County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence on Shaw Road, where both men reportedly lived. Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests in Oakland

A traffic stop in Garrett County near Oakland on May 16 led to two drug arrests.  The driver of the vehicle, 31 year old Jerry Denver Welch of Oakland, and the passenger, 62 year old Joseph Michael Dewitt, were both charged with possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.  The two were released on their own recognizance.

BENCH WARRANTS SERVED

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Shenay Hughson.  One warrant was issued as the result of Hughson failing to appear in court on original charges of Poss/Rec CDS while Conf/Det and CDS: Possess-Not Cannabis.  The other warrant was issued due to Hughson violating probation on an original charge of Theft less than $100.  Hughson was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  She was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
