Memorial Parade Plans Continue
The first Memorial Day Parade in many years is set for Downtown Cumberland on May 26th. Ed Mullaney from Let’s Beautify Cumberland! says a variety of groups have already signed up to participate, and others are encouraged to sign up until Wednesday, May 21st by contacting the Let’s Beautify Cumberland committee… “We’re looking for musical groups as well. Wing-Off Scheduled
The 13th annual Wing-Off fundraiser to benefit the Western Maryland Jaycees is scheduled for June 21st at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. Motorcycle Safety Month
Motorcycle Safety Month occurs in May each year to bring attention to the increased numbers of motorcycles on the roads. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration notes there has already been 13 motorcycle-related deaths in 2025. Flood Victims Should Be Aware of Scams
Now that flood recovery efforts are underway, residents should be aware of fundraising and contractor scams that may be occurring. Scams to raise money for victims or groups and unlicensed contractor prey on disaster victims. Scammers use social media, texts, and even go door to door. Frostburg Hears General Assembly Recap
The Frostburg Mayor and Council recently heard a recap of the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session from Rich Reinhardt of Percy Public Affairs. Reinhardt is a lobbyist for both Frostburg and the City of Cumberland. During his presentation, he encouraged the council to keep a presence in Annapolis… “It was nice to have the presence of seeing Frostburg in Annapolis this year, at PACE as well. The more we can kind of see that in Annapolis, the more visibility of Frostburg. It just kind of continues to help support whatever we need we have there. They remember that.”
Congratulations to Garrett County’s Newest Correctional Officers
Sheriff Meyers and the administration of the Garrett County Detention Center would like to congratulate its newest Correctional Officers. CRIMINAL SUMMONS ARREST
On Saturday, May 17th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served Criminal Summonses on Araya Maureen Plauger, 31, of Ridgeley WV, and Keith Louis Wilkens, 37, of Frostburg MD. Both summonses were in reference to an incident that occurred on May 10th, in the area of the Great Allegheny Passage trail in Cumberland. On that date, officers discovered a camp occupied by both Wilkens and Plauger. A promotional video for downtown Cumberland and the Memorial Day parade will air during DelFest at Allegany County Fairgrounds on “Delevision” large screens.
