Garrett County Sheriff’s deputies made a traffic stop on Tuesday along Bray School Road for multiple traffic violations.  As a result of the stop and investigation, Jerry Welch, 30 years old, of Oakland, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, fleeing and eluding, and other violations.

The teaching faculty of Frostburg State University are becoming more vocal since the no-confidence vote they returned for President Ron Nowaczyk in late September.  The number of faculty has reduced by 75 since 2017, many positions remaining open after retirements. On Thursday, October 10th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a vacant residence in the 400 block of Arch St for the report of a breaking and entering. Once on scene, officers observed a male subject inside the property and made contact with him. The subject advised he was the owner and was currently renovating the property. Property records were searched and it was determined that the subject neither owned, nor had permission to be on the property.
