Hagerstown Man Guilty in Adult Care Case
A Hagerstown man has been convicted in a case of abuse of a vulnerable adult. Kehinde Ososanya was found guilty of second-degree abuse and second-degree assault of an adult with autism in his care while employed by the ARC of Washington County. A co-worker witnessed the victim being “karate-chopped” in the neck, punched, and kneed in the rib cage when he had been taken by the ARC employee to an urgent care facility. Ososanya could be sentenced up to 15 years incarceration.
Ocean City May Pursue Litigation Over Windmills
Officials in Ocean City are seriously considering suing the federal government for its decision to permit a windmill farm off the Atlantic coast. Last week the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management approved building the turbines ten miles off the coast. Over one hundred windmills could be constructed.
West Virginia Special Session Set for End of September
Gov. Jim Justice announced Monday that he will call a special session for Sept. 30 for lawmakers to consider tax cuts and support for childcare. Justice’s second term as governor ends in a few months as he runs for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Joe Manchin, who decided not to seek reelection.
Garrett County Arrest
On September 8, 2024, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office stopped a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer along Maple Street in Friendsville. The driver of the vehicle, Travis Jay Martin, 30 years old, Lonaconing, Maryland, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant. A search of Martin revealed a quantity of crack cocaine. Further investigation and search of the vehicle by Detectives with the Garrett County Narcotics Task Force, resulted in the recovery of over 6 ounces of Methamphetamine having a street value of over $17,000.00, as well as a quantity of Subutex. County Will Sell Western Maryland Works Property To ACM
Allegany College of Maryland is entering in to an agreement with Allegany County to purchase property on Lane Avenue in LaVale where the college has been operating the Western Maryland Works Training Center. Currently, the college leases the property from the county for its Training Center and Makerspace. AES Still Working to Help County
While the coal-powered electricity generation plant of AES Warrior Run has gone dark, there is still work happening at the corporate level to make the plant usable again. Whiskey Rebellion Offers Variety
Over fifteen different distillers from around the region will bring their best spirits to the Whiskey Rebellion Festival on September 13. The festival commemorates the area’s rebellion against a so-called whiskey tax and George Washington’s last visit to the area to put down the rebels. Heritage Days Will Feature Historical Re-Enactors
Cumberland’s Heritage Days Festival is part entertainment, part educational. The Wills Creek Muster, which encamps next to the craft show on historic Washington Street, includes living history with re-enactors in period costume including George Washington and General Lew Wallace.
