Investigation Continues In Child’s Death
Investigation is continuing into the death of a 7-year old girl who went missing on Labor Day. A 911 call shortly before 2pm Monday brought emergency responders to the McCoole area. The child was found in the area of the Potomac River shortly after the search began. Resuscitation efforts by first responders went on for 30 minutes. Three responders suffered multiple bee stings and required transport to UPMC for treatment. The death is under investigation by the Allegany County Sheriff’s office and the C3I Unit is assisting.

Chamber Announces Recognition Honorees
The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce has announced honorees for its 2024 Recognition Reception. Business of the Year is Chessie Federal Credit Union. Frostburg State University’s Dr. Artie Travis will be honored for Community Service, and CG Enterprises will receive the Entrepreneurial Spirit award. Finalists for the nonprofit of the Year are the Allegany College of Maryland Foundation, the Allegany Arts Council and the Western Maryland Food Bank. That winner will be announced at the reception on November 7 at the Hotel Gunter in Frostburg.
Union Rescue Has Ground Breaking Wednesday
Tomorrow, the Union Rescue Mission of Western Maryland will kick off its capital campaign and have the ground breaking for its new shelter location at the former High Point Furniture on North Centre Street. Union Rescue has been working with those homeless and needy in the community since 1963. HandCraft Services Will Build in Martinsburg
A family owned business is expanding into West Virginia. HandCraft Services is a leading provider of medical linens and apparel products, managing over 110 million pounds of linen annually for almost 2,700 hospitals and medical practices. The announcement that the company was making a $59 million dollar investment in expansion came during the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Summit at the Greenbrier Resort. The new facility will create 220 new jobs in the Martinsburg area.
CEDC Working Through Issues On Housing Development

Upon arrival Officers were provided photographs of the suspect. Officers were able to positively Identify the suspect as Tara Athey.
