Support Increases For AM Radio Bill
More members of Congress are signing on to support the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. Over 250 members of the House of Representatives have signed on as co-sponsors for the bill to keep AM radio in vehicle dashboards. Many of the major auto makers have said that they will discontinue providing AM radio in vehicles with the exception of Ford. The National Association of Broadcasters is lobbying that AM radio needs to remain for the role it plays in public safety, local news and information, and community service.
CSX Finalizes Early Labor Agreements

Ray Morriss Discusses Political Future
On Wednesday's Dave Norman Morning Show, Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss refuted rumors that he plans to run for Allegany County Commissioner. The mayor said he currently plans to run for another term as mayor in 2026. When asked about the House of Delegates seat currently held by Jason Buckel, Morriss said if that seat were to come open, he would seriously consider running.
Harmful Algae in Potomac Near City
Algae that could be harmful to pets if ingested has spread in the Potomac River, officials said. In July, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said that algae mats had been detected in the Potomac River. Initially, DNR reported that the mats were in the area from below Williamsport to Riley’s Lock. On Tuesday, Aug. 20, officials said that the algae mats had also been detected near Cumberland in Allegany County. DNR said that pet owners should keep animals out of the water. Section of Mechanic Street Closed on August 22
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Potomac Edison, would like to notify the public that Mechanic Street between Pershing Street and Harrison Street will be closed between 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM on Thursday, 8/22/24. Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the road closure. Trucks will be detoured to Queen City Drive to avoid the closure. Traffic is expected to be fully restored after work is completed at 1:00 PM. Additional information will be released in the event the operation needs to be extended.
