Fort Hill, Frankfort, and Northern Continue Playoff Runs

The Fort Hill Sentinels, Frankfort Falcons, and Northern Huskies will all be playing football Thanksgiving weekend.  Fort Hill will visit Perryville, Frankfort will host Bluefield, and Northern will visit the SEED School in Baltimore.  The Frankfort-Bluefield game will be at 4 p.m. Saturday   WCBC will publish dates and times for Fort Hill and Northern as they become available.

AAA Issues Thanksgiving Travel Forecast

Mid-Atlantic AAA has extended its annual Thanksgiving travel forecast to seven days, adding the Tuesday before and Monday after the holiday. This year AAA says they project the worst times to travel by car are Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon when holiday travelers will be on the road at the same time as evening commuters. Thanksgiving Day itself is the best time to travel when interstates are usually clear. Drivers returning home on Sunday should plan an early departure while those leaving Monday will see a mix of travelers and commuters on the road.

BENCH WARRANT SERVED   On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on James Langway.  The warrant was issued as the result of Langway failing to comply with a court order.  Langway was originally charged with 6 counts of Malicious Destruction of Property $1000+ and 2 counts of Malicious Destruction of Property less than $1000. CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

On Friday, November 22, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Dillon Lowery.  The summons was issued as the result of a theft investigation that began on November 6, 2024.  On this date, it was reported that Lowery stole a debit card and made multiple unauthorized transactions.  After further investigation, police filed for charges against Lowery at the District Court of Allegany County.  Lowery signed for his copy of the summons and he was released pending trial. Gov. Moore Announces $24 Million Federal Investment in Training for Careers in Transportation

Greene Street Fire

Cumberland Fire Department responded to a commercial fire in the 600 block of Greene Street this morning. Green Street remains closed at this time. Fire crews from around the region supported the operation extinguishing the fire quickly. No report of any serious injury. Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Utah Avenue Theft Arrest

On Friday, November 22, 2024 at approximately 2:39 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the first block of Utah Avenue for a theft in progress.  The alleged victim had observed the suspect on his security camera, stealing property. Police arrived and located the suspect, Jason Stottlemyer, who was in possession of what was determined to be the property of the victim.  After further investigation, Stottlemyer was arrested and transported to police headquarters.  He was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial. State Highway Administration to upgrade highway signs on eastbound I-68 in Allegany and Garrett

  Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin work to upgrade highway signs for commercial vehicles on eastbound I-68 in Allegany and Garrett counties. The $2.6 million project, which will improve safety for commercial drivers, should be completed in spring 2026, weather permitting. The upgrades will include an Intelligent Transportation System overhead sign that has a radar detection system for commercial vehicles. A beacon will flash indicating the vehicle is over the posted speed limit. The remaining signs will be introducing a right lane only restriction for commercial trucks.
