Gov. Justice, WVDNR introduce new Law Enforcement Dive Team
Gov. Justice announced the formation of a Natural Resources Police dive team within West Virginia's Division of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Section. This team will assist the agency's law enforcement efforts in boating incidents, cases of missing persons, and evidence recovery. During the ceremony at Bluestone State Park, the team demonstrated their expertise by diving to the bottom of Bluestone Lake to retrieve a dog bone, which they then presented to Babydog. Oath Of Office for New Mayor
A special Mayor and City Council meeting will take place Monday afternoon for the swearing in of the new Mayor for the City of Frostburg. Starting at 4pm in the Frostburg Municipal Center, outgoing Mayor Bob Flanigan will lead a final call-to-order and Pledge of Allegiance before the Honorable Dawne Lindsay, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Allegany County presides over the Oath of Office for new Mayor Todd Logsdon. Logsdon became the new mayor in June’s election, winning by 88 votes over Flanigan.

Warrants Served On 07/05/2024 the Cumberland City Police Department served two Arrest Warrants on Jessica Buckingham. Buckingham failed to appear in court for a theft charge. Buckingham was also wanted for issuing a bad check at a business in the 200 block of Franklin Street on 07/15/2018. Buckingham received a hearing before a District Court Commissioner and was released on her personal recognizance. Pirates Club 7 Home Runs, Skenes Wins, in 14-2 Rout of Mets
The Pirates tied a team record with 7 home runs Friday night and Paul Skenes went 7 innings in a 14-2 win over the New York Mets at a sold out PNC Park. Bryan Reynolds and Rowdy Tellez each swatted two home runs and each had a grand slam.
West Virginia Receives Grant For CHIP Program
West Virginia has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Children’s Health Insurance Program School-Based Services. The grant enables essential health services directly within schools, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and personally. The state will receive at least $2.5 million over three years for school health services through Medicaid and CHIP. Funding supports efforts to connect children to critical health care services, especially mental health services, at school.
School Supply Drive
For the fourth year, The Maryland Department of Transportation and the State Department of Education are creating school supply kits. A supply list can be found at mdot.maryland.gov. Supplies can be dropped off at 90 locations across Maryland through July 12, including the MVA offices in LaVale. Online monetary donations are accepted and kits can also be purchased from Amazon through the MDOT website.
Frostburg State University Receives Grant For Nursing Program
A multi-year grant from the Maryland Higher Education Commission will expand capacity with the LPN to BSN nursing program for Frostburg State University. Over $2 million dollars over four years is being granted that will allow the university to assist the growth of the LPN to BSN program, designed for working adult learners interested in advancing their healthcare knowledge. The program exposes students to jobs in leadership roles or careers in specialized care areas.
Mayor & Council Members Attend MML Summer Conference
The Maryland Municipal League meets twice a year for leaders of municipalities throughout the state to network and learn the latest on legislation and governing from community leaders across the state. The summer conference featured guest speakers U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and Governor Wes Moore.
