Used Cellphones Easily Hacked
University of Maryland researchers found that used cell phones purchased off PropertyRoom.com, a website that partners with police departments, often contain personal data from prior owners. In one case, a phone was part of an identity theft scheme and contained multiple victims’ data. Many of the phones had no PIN to secure them, while others were accessed by guessing simple PIN numbers. Study author Dave Levin says they found many people aren't taking basic precautions…
Road Worker Protection Act Proposed
Lt. Governor Aruna Miller spent much of her first year in office concentrating on highway safety. Miller, who is a Transportation Engineer, worked with the State Highway Administration to craft the Maryland Road Worker Protection Act. Violent Firearms Offenders Act Gets First Hearing
One of the Public Safety bills proposed by Republicans in the Maryland Senate had its first hearing late last week in Annapolis. Senate Bill 28 is the Violent Firearms Offenders Act of 2024. Motorbikes Stolen From Bedford Dealer
Two motor bikes valued at over $18,000 were stolen from Five Star Powersports in Bedford. Surveillance video shows four suspects breaking in to the dealership and loading two Kawasaki motorbikes in to a U-Haul. The suspects then left the scene with the U-Haul and headed west on Route 30. The Pennsylvania State Police Bedford barracks is continuing to investigate.
Warrant/Criminal Summons Served
On Sunday, January 27th, 2024 the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Jacob Lee Haines. The warrant was issued by District Court for an incident that occurred on January 26th, when officers responded to a Memorial Avenue residence for the report of an assault. When officers arrived, they spoke with a female victim that alleged that Haines had injured her during an altercation. Officers did observed injuries consistent with her statement. Attempts to locate Haines at that time were unsuccessful and an application for charges was submitted with the District Court Commissioner Office. Haines was charged with first…
Carroll County firefighter arrested for setting fires
A volunteer Carroll County firefighter has been arrested and charged in connection to a string of fires over the last year in the Eldersburg and Liberty Reservoir area of Carroll County. Allison Nicole Creutzer, 20, of Eldersburg, has been charged with intentionally setting fire to grass, brush, and woodland, three counts of second-degree malicious burning, and one misdemeanor count of calling in a false report of a fire. Creutzer, a volunteer firefighter with the Reese Volunteer Fire Company, was arrested yesterday evening by the Baltimore Environmental Police, who assisted during the investigation. Women’s Track & Field Impresses at Jim Wuske Invite
Frostburg State Women's Indoor Track and Field team competed on Saturday in the Jim Wuske Invite, where they finished top-five in multiple events. Freshman Isabella Mastria was the lone first place finisher for Frostburg, taking first in the long jump with a jump of 5.32m, which is the fifth-best in FSU history. It was a busy day for Mastria, who also placed fifth in the 60m dash with an 8.00 finish, and the 200m dash with a 26.56 finish.
