The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police – Barrack C have combined resources to target open and active warrants. As a result, the following individuals have been apprehended. Friday, January 18, 2024 Eric Douglas Fleek Jr., 42 of Cresaptown, was arrested on a Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Violation of Pre-Trial Supervision. His original charges include: Sex Abuse Minor: House/Family. He is currently held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center. David Darius Daughton, 27 of Baltimore and currently listed as homeless, was served a Circuit Court Grand Jury Indictment. His charges include: CDS: Possession Not Cannabis…

Gas Leak at Mount Savage School located

Allegany County Emergency service dispatch to Mount Savage Elementary Middle School on New School Road for gas leak. A number of fire and EMS crews investigated with the assistance of Columbia Gas and school maintenance employees. A gas leak was located on the roof of the building I was connected to a heating unit. The leak was repaired and emergency crews were released from the scene.

Mount Savage Students Rerouted to Mountain Ridge High School.

Mount Savage SchoolAdministration was notified of a possible gas leak, prior to student arrival this morning. All Mount Savage students have been rerouted to Mountain Ridge High School. The Maintenance Supervisor and HVAC staff are currently investigating the situation with the assistance of Columbia Gas and the Fire Department. Updates will be made as soon as they are available. Parents will be notified when students are transported back to the school.

2 Alarm house fire Beall School Road in eastern Garrett county

Allegany County Emergency Services dispatched early this morning to support Garrett County Fire operations on a mutual aid call for working house fire in the 1000 block of Beall School Road in eastern Garrett county. A number of fire crews supporting the two alarm fire, battling not just the fire but the weather. The fire was under control just after 6:45AM with fire crews cleaning up. Beall School Road remains closed at this time.

CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Guan Sen.  The summons was issued as the result of an incident that was reported on November 27, 2023.  On this date, police took the report of a theft that occurred in the 200 block of Race Street.  The alleged victim advised that Guan Sen took checks from her purse and cashed them without her authorization. The checks totaled $4,000. After further investigation, police filed for charges against Sen at the District Court of Allegany County.  Sen signed for his copy of the summons and he…

Temporary Traffic Pattern for downtown Cumberland

Beginning today, North Centre Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street, as well as North Liberty Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street, will be closed for vehicular through traffic. Pedestrian access will still be maintained in these areas, as well as emergency vehicle access. In an effort to mitigate this closure, vehicular traffic may access downtown via South Centre Street from Pershing Street. Traffic will be directed onto Baltimore Street and then back onto South Liberty Street prior to returning to Pershing Street. Additional short-term parking will also be provided on Baltimore Street. Maryland’s Board of Public Works funding two projects in Cumberland

Maryland’s Board of Public Works approved more than $265 million for 60 initiatives in the state and two projects in Cumberland received funding.  The Mayor and City Council received $50,000 for the Mid-Town Façade Grant program that will focus on properties in  North Centre and North Mechanic Street areas.  Humpty Dumpty Learning center also received $75,000 in funding for improvements.

Safe Communities Act of 2024, MD House Bill 310 seeks to eliminate diminution credits

Maryland House Bill 310 has been introduced by the Joint Republican Caucus.  Known as the Safe Communities Act of 2024, the bill would seek to eliminate what are called diminution credits for those charged with first or second degree murder and serving sentences in Maryland prisons.  The credits can significantly trim a prisoner’s sentence and that is something House Minority Leader Jason Buckel and other bill sponsors want to keep from happening…
