TRESPASSING ARREST
On Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at approximately 4:58 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue for the report of Megan Pettit trespassing on the property. Police confirmed that Pettit had been served with a no trespassing letter. Officers arrived on scene and placed Pettit under arrest. She was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial. House Fire in Frostburg
A fire Tuesday morning in Frostburg caused $40,000 in damage. The fire was reported at 6:57 a.m. at 317 Main Street. Twenty-eight firefighters responded and the kitchen fire was extinguished in five minutes. The fire was deemed accidental and the owner of the home, Shannon Paige McGann, and a pet escaped the fire safely. The American Red Cross is assisting.
Two Pedestrians Killed in Indiana, PA
Two pedestrians died Monday afternoon in Indiana, PA, after being struck by a bus. WJAC TV reports that a 68-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman died in the incident. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
Frostburg UPMC Outpatient Center Closed Due to Water Break
Due to a water outage currently impacting the city of Frostburg, the UPMC Outpatient Center in the Frostburg Plaza will be closed the remainder of the day on Tuesday, Oct. 21. CRIMINAL SUMMONSES SERVED
On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served two criminal summonses on Cathy Nixon. The summonses were issued as the result of private citizens filing charges against Nixon at the District Court of Allegany County. Nixon signed for her copies and she was released pending trial. Beall, Frost Elementary Early Dismissal Today
Beall Elementary School and Frost Elementary School will be dismissing at 12:45pm today, due to a main water break in the area. Those students riding buses 151 and 154 will be dismissed between 12:15 and 12:30pm.
BENCH WARRANT SERVED
On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Neil Emerick. The warrant was issued as the result of Emerick failing to appear in court on an original charge of Trespass-Posted Property. Emerick was arrested and seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing. At the conclusion, Emerick was released on his personal recognizance. Maryland Moms Report Difficulty in Accessing Mental Health for Children
A report by Count on Mothers and Inseparable reveals that a majority of families is struggling to access and afford children’s mental health care. A survey revealed over 2,000 mothers see gaps in children’s mental health care access, with private insurance failing families at higher rates than Medicaid. One in four Maryland moms report they were unable to access mental health care for their child when needed and that time was the biggest barrier, according to the report. One in three moms report difficulty accessing counselors or psychologists at school.
