Today is Primary Election Day – Vote!
Today is Election Day for the 2024 Primary Presidential election. Polls across the state will be open from 7am until 8pm – anyone in line by 8pm will be allowed to cast a vote. Unregistered individuals wishing to vote may register and vote at their assigned polling place. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by or before 8pm this evening or voters can hand-deliver ballots to a drop box or board of elections by 8pm.
Ladew Topiary Gardens bus trip
The House and Garden Club of Frostburg is hosting a charter bus trip to Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, MD on Monday June 10th. There are still seats available, but the reservation deadline is Friday, May 17th. The cost is $80 for the transportation which includes the entrance fee. Ladew is known as one of the 10 best Topiary Gardens in the world and one of the top 5 gardens in North America. Changes to Medicare Part D Prescription Plans Coming in 2025
While older state of Maryland retirees are for the first time having to consider what to do about prescription drug plans for 2025, other seniors should be planning as well. Influx of Millions Coming to Maryland Housing Authorities
An influx of $35 million dollars in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding is coming to Maryland housing authorities to renovate, improve and build public housing. Federal lawmakers released a statement saying, “Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Team Maryland is committed to finding solutions and increasing options to address the housing crisis that has impacted so many in our state.” The Housing Authority of the City of Cumberland will receive just under $1.2 million dollars.
Senator McKay Comments on Funding of Educational Blueprint
This past session of the Maryland General Assembly saw a record number of bills introduced – over 3,000. ACOM To Graduate Largest Class since 2017
A larger crowd is expected at Allegany College of Maryland’s commencement ceremonies this coming Saturday. The class of 353 is the largest since 2017, receiving 427 degrees and certificates. Two ceremonies will take place in the Bob Kirk Arena at 11am and 2pm. Graduates Linkyn Harmon and Penelope White will speak at the morning ceremony and Luke Htay and Jordyn Landis will speak at the afternoon ceremony. Maryland Now Has One of the Toughest Laws on Online Privacy
Maryland now has one of the country’s toughest laws dealing with online privacy. The Maryland Online Data Privacy Act narrows what information companies can collect from online users, limiting it to only what is necessary to deliver a service. The law also prevents selling sensitive information to third parties. Broadway Circle Assault Arrest
On Monday May 13th, 2024 at approximately 9:16 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 500 block of Broadway Circle for a reported assault. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with the victim, who alleged that Siebert had kicked them in the ribs several time and officers were able to observe evidence of injury. Tamara was placed under arrest and was later taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was released on her own recognizance. Arrest: Tamara Siebert, age 57, Cumberland Maryland. Charge: Assault Second Degree.
Disorderly Conduct Arrests
On Monday May 13th, 2024, at approximately 9:34 hours officers responded to the 10 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon officer’s arrival they observed several individuals in an active disturbance. Officers spoke with several of the individuals involved, including Shauntae MacDonald, and Samantha Booker. At the conclusion of the incident, they were advised to keep the peace or they would be placed under arrest. At approximately 12:32 am, officers again responded for a disturbance at the same location.
