The 27th annual County United Way Day of Caring and Sharing brings the community together to clean up and revitalize parks and roadways across our County. Garden Club of Cumberland hosting annual garden tour

The Garden Club of Cumberland will be hosting their annual garden tour on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Rain or Shine.  All featured gardens are in the city of Cumberland. Proceeds from the tour support projects such as George Washington Headquarters, Helen Miller Garden in Constitution Park, Veteran’s Park, Nature Conservancy, Assateague Coastal Trust, a FSU Scholarship and a donation to Allegany College. Seymour Street Assault Arrest

On Saturday, May 11, 2024 at approximately 12:44 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Seymour Street for an assault.  Police contacted Rachel Brotemarkle and Donald Pryor.  Brotemarkle reported that she had been assaulted by Pryor.  Police contacted another alleged victim who reported that she had been assaulted by Brotemarkle.  Pryor and Brotemarkle were arrested and transported to Central Booking.  Brotemarkle was found to be in possession of a suspected controlled dangerous substance.  Brotemarkle and Pryor were later seen by a District Court Commissioner for their bond hearings.  Brotemarkle posted a…

BENCH WARRANT SERVED

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Glenn Williams.  The warrant was issued as the result of Williams failing to comply with an order of the court.  He was originally charged with False/Alarm/Fire: Cause, Malicious Destruction of Property/Value less than $1000, Violate State Fire Prevention Reg.  Williams was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. Lt. Governor Visit for Book Donation and Reading Event in Cumberland

On Wednesday, May 15th, Lt. Governor Aruna Miller will visit Bel Air Elementary School to participate in a book reading to students with Cumberland-native, Hannah Smith who is the author of five books that have been sold with global recognition. Hannah’s 2020 book The Silly Yak Who Had Celiac will be read to observe National Celiac Awareness Month. Smith and the Western Maryland Literacy Initiative will donate several hundred books to the students of Bel Air Elementary School. Wishart, Schauman Earn PR’s in Track & Field’s Final Outdoor Meet of Season

Moore Attends Ribbon-Cutting in Hagerstown

Maryland Governor Wes Moore attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Conair Distribution Center in Hagerstown on Friday afternoon.  The new distribution center, first announced in October, 2023, is the largest distribution center in the Mid-Atlantic region, with 700 new jobs expected to be created.

Skenes to make MLB Debut

Pittsburgh Pirates rookie pitching sensation Paul Skenes will make his Major League debut on Saturday, as the Pirates host the Cubs at 4:05 pm.  Skenes was the number one draft choice for the Pirates in 2023, previously pitching at the Air Force Academy and LSU.  Starting this season at AAA Indianapolis, Skenes has a 0.99 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings of work.

Arrest Warrant Served for April Incident

On Friday, May 10, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Amber Westfall.  The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on April 30, 2024.  On this date at approximately 11:00 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department observed Amber Westfall in the area of Virginia Avenue.  The officer confirmed that Westfall had active warrants for her arrest.  When the officer contacted her and informed her that she had warrants, Westfall fled on foot.  The officer initiated a foot pursuit and was able to take her into custody.  A search of Westfall’s…
