Alsobrooks Endorsed by Congressman Raskin
Angela Alsobrooks has picked up a major endorsement in her campaign for the Maryland U.S. Senate – Congressman Jamie Raskin. The announcement comes as Alsobrooks and David Trone continue to battle it out before the primary elelction on May 14. Trone has outspent all opponents in the race and holds a lead in polls over Alsobrooks. The Democratic winner will most likely face former Governor Larry Hogan in the General Election.
McKay Still Working on Benefit Loss
One of Maryland Senator Mike McKay’s more aggressive bills this General Assembly session has been one to restore prescription benefits to state employees who lost them under Governor Martin O’Malley. WV High School Seniors Scholarship Applications Deadline April 8th
Current high school seniors who are interested in becoming teachers in West Virginia have until April 8 to apply for the state’s newest and most prestigious scholarship, the Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program. This scholarship provides up to $10,000 per year – or $40,000 total – for 25 new scholars each year. Earlier this year, the program was in danger of ending when it was discovered that funding for new scholarships was not available. Wills Hotel Project to Receive Financial Help
A developing business in downtown Cumberland is getting some needed financial help. The Wills Hotel, a 20-room boutique hotel slated to locate in the former Manhattan building at the corner of Liberty and Baltimore Streets will receive $350,000 from various entities to help with funding needed to renovate the building. On March 25th, 2024 the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Anthony Ibarra. The warrant was issued after Ibarra was indicted by the Grand Jury for rape second degree. He was served the warrant and transported to Central Booking where he was later seen by a District Court commissioner and remanded to the Allegany Detention Center held without bond. Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapses
A portion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has collapsed after a large boat collided with it early today. A large vessel crashed into the bridge around 1:30 AM, Tuesday. The vessel, catching on fire before sinking and causing multiple vehicles to fall into the Patapsco River below. Maryland Transportation Authority has closed all lanes in both directions, north and southbound of Interstate 695, bridge traffic is being detoured.
