On Tuesday, February 20th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Antonio Fagan Jr, 36, of Cumberland MD. Fagan was arrested on a Parole Retake Warrant issued by the Maryland Parole Commission. The warrant alleges Fagan failed to obey the terms and condition of his parole. On Tuesday, February 20th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Corbit Harry Arrowood Jr, 49, of Cumberland MD. Arrowood was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on February 15th, 2024. The warrant alleges Arrowood failed to appear in court that day for a previous trespassing charge. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $500 bond. Allegany College of Maryland and The Garrett County Health Department will be receiving grants totaling over $1.6 million dollars for programs of telehealth, counseling, and stress-relief tools for area students.  The money is part of $111 million dollars in grants announced Tuesday through the Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports – part of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future education reform. The Mayor and Council received a proposal from Allegany County for use of Greenspace near the housing development planned for West Side. The Haystack Village Park would be located along Sedgwick Street and would include access to the GAP trail. The plot of land to be used is just under 3 acres.  Plans are to develop a memorandum of understanding between the City and County for the land use.

Fire units have responded to the White Oaks Avenue area for reports of a brush fire.  Reports say a caller reported a blown transformer started the brush fire. Electriity has been reported off at locations throughout South Cumberland.
