Two Arrested on Lincoln Street for Assault
On Saturday, September 2, 2023 at approximately 6:36 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Lincoln Street for a disturbance. Officers contacted the involved parties, Michael Sharon and Morgan Grubb. Police learned that a mutual assault had occurred. Officers observed that both subjects had sustained injuries from the altercation. Sharon and Grubb were arrested and transported to Central Booking. On Saturday, September 2, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Martin Stanback. The warrants were issued as the result of Stanback failing to comply with an order of the court. In one case, he was originally charged with Burglary-4th Degree, Trespass: Posted Property, Litter/Dump: Under 100 LBS, and Malicious Destruction of Property less than $1,000. In the other case, he was originally charged with Trespass: Private Property, Disorderly Conduct, and Disturb the Peace/Disorderly. Stanback was arrested and transported to Central Booking. Gov. Justice announces $22.8 million revenue surplus for August
Gov. Jim Justice announced today that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for August 2023, the second month of Fiscal Year 2024, came in at $410.8 million, which is $22.8 million above estimate. The surplus was led by strong consumer sales tax. Year-to-date revenue collections of $745.8 million stand at $30.5 million above estimate. “Once again, our surplus this month proves that we’re wisely minding our store and keeping our state on the right track, just as West Virginians elected me to do,” Gov. Volleyball Splits Final Day of Home Tournament
The Frostburg State Women's Volleyball Team split the last day of their home tournament, defeating Bowie State before falling to Pitt-Johnstown. FSU woke up with a win under their belt and ready to conquer the day. In the first set of game one, Bowie State earned the first two points off of Bobcat errors. FSU quickly turned things around, as senior Beverly Braun was set up for a strong kill that put the hosts on the board. Construction in Cumberland moving forward
A Construction update from Melinda Kelleher, Executive Director Downtown Development Commission this week, Triton Construction completed installation of mainline utilities (water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer) from the Centre Street intersection to the George Street intersection. Their sub-contractor, Rommel Construction, continued installing electric lines and fiber optic conduit throughout the project site. After the holiday weekend, there will be two planned street closures. Liberty Street will be closed on Tuesday, September 5 and Centre Street will be closed on Thursday, September 7. For each closure, the streets should be reopened by 4PM. These closures are necessary for Rommel Construction to bring their fiber and electric lines…

The Frostburg State Volleyball team earned their first win of the season in a solid 3-1 match against East Stroudsburg on Friday evening. Frostburg came out hot in set one, falling behind 1-0 on the first play, but fighting back to score four straight points on two errors from ESU, and two kills from freshmen Paige Mock and Emma Larkins.
