Council Schedules Work Session Tuesday

While no regular public meeting is scheduled this week, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council will be holding a public work session on Tuesday, February 13th at 4pm. The council will receive updates regarding the Downtown Comprehensive Investment Program, the Downtown Surveillance Project and an update from the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation. Mineral County Gets Broadband Boost

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice is continuing his state’s efforts to extend broadband throughout the state.  During his weekly administrative briefing, grants to improve access to high-speed broadband capabilities were announced for nine counties.  Among them is Mineral County that will receive over $10 million in funding for Comcast Cable to extend connections to almost 1000 addresses….

Non-Invasive Valve Replacement Coming To UPMC

Dr. Christopher Haas, Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Western Maryland, was a gues on the Dave Norman program Monday with the important annoucement that a new cardiac procedure will soon be happening at the health system.  Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement is set to begin at the end of the month.  It is a newly-approved procedure for the hospital and is a less invasive operation than what was done previously as patients do not need to have their chest cut open.  The hospital has been preparing for  a couple of years to get the approvement needed…

False Imprisonment Arrest

On Sunday February 11th, 2024 at approximately 4:02 am, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 block of West Industrial Boulevard for a reported assault in progress. Upon officer’s arrival they attempted to contact the residents, but a male, later identified as Christopher Bradshaw, had yelled for officers to leave. Officers spoke with a witness who advised that they observed Bradshaw to punching and kicking the victim of the incident outside of the residence. Trespassing Arrests

On Sunday February 11th, 2024 at approximately 6:01 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 700 block of Park Street for a reported trespassing complaint. Upon officer’s arrival they contacted Drezdin Delgado, who was previously served with a “No Trespass” letter from the business. Delgado was issued a Criminal Citation for trespassing, and awaits his trial at the District Court. Arrest: Drezdin Jose Delgado, age 22, Cumberland Maryland. Charge: Trespassing. New Traffic Pattern for downtown Cumberland

Beginning today, February 12th, vehicular traffic may access downtown via South Centre Street from Pershing Street, traffic will then be directed EAST onto Baltimore Street and then exit onto George Street. Additional short-term parking will also be provided on Baltimore Street near the intersection with Centre Street. Closed Street's South Liberty Street between Pershing Street and Baltimore Street, Baltimore Street between Liberty Street and Centre Street, North Centre Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street, and North Liberty Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street.
