Frostburg City Police Department handled the initial response of an elderly missing woman. Janet Asbury, an 82 year old female with dementia, visiting family in Frostburg was reported missing just after 7AM Sunday fron High Street. WCBC news asked Frostburg City Police Chief, Nicholas Costello about the initial investigation and a search of the community began with the assistance of Mountain Rescue K-9. A request for public assistance was made at 9:20AM on social media. Allegany County Emergency Services initiated a massive search operation. Criminal Summons Served

On Sunday, December 17th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Nellie Ann Miller, 59, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to multiple calls for service at an apartment building in the 500 block of Shriver Ave dating back to March, 2023. During each of these incidents the Cumberland Police responded to the residence for reported noise disturbances coming from Miller’s apartment.  During each incident, Miller was advised to stop disturbing the peace of her neighbors. County Prepping for Annapolis Meetings

Allegany County Administrator Jason Bennett says that staff for the county is preparing for meetings with department heads and legislators in Annapolis come January.  The county holds the meetings as the General Assembly session is beginning to get the area’s needs in front of lawmakers… Bennett says that the coming year’s budget will already have some strains due to the Transportation funding cuts across Maryland…

Citizens Fear Speaking To Commissioners

Concerned citizens have spoken at monthly public meetings of the Allegany County Commissioners ever since the decision was made to go with developer D.R. City Programs Funded Through Housing & Community Development Grants

Fiscal Year 2024 State Revitalization Program awards will be coming to help the City of Cumberland.  Three of four programs that the city applied for have received funding through the Department of Housing and Community Development.  DHCD Secretary Jake Day said that each project plays a key role in revitalization efforts across the state.  Ruth Davis-Rogers, the city’s Historic Planner, went over the programs that received funding…    

Liberty Street Construction Update Given

Office Of Overdose Response Established

An executive order signed Friday by Governor Wes Moore has created a new office to coordinate and promote efforts across state agencies to address the overdose crisis in Maryland.  Governor Moore said the new Maryland Office of Overdose Response expands pathways to care and will have a multi-faceted approach to reducing overdoses – prevention, harm reduction, treatment, recovery and public safety….    

Keep Holiday Driving Jolly

AAA’s Foundation for Traffic Safety says dangerous behaviors behind the wheel can make for a less than jolly holiday season.  Although drunk driving is a problem every day, it is more prevalent during the holidays. During Christmas and New Year periods in 2020, there were 209 drunk-driving related deaths.  Last December, there were 51 traffic fatalities on Maryland roadways – seventeen of those involved aggressive driving or speeding. According to new reports, fewer drivers perceive speeding as dangerous and 15% of drivers admitted to engaging in distracted driving behaviors such as texting.

Traffic Alert Harrison Street/Pershing Street Partial Closure Monday

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Breezeline, would like to notify the public that Mechanic Street will be closed to one lane between Harrison Street and Pershing Street between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Monday, December 18th, to allow Breezeline to perform work on their cables. Flagging will occur to direct people through the intersection. Additional information will be released in the event the closure duration needs to be extended.
