Winter Market is coming to town

The Winter Market being planned for the Canal Place Plaza is new to the area for the holidays.  Downtown Development Director Melinda Kelleher tells WCBC that the event has activities for all ages and is family-friendly.  Crowds are expected at the event that takes place December 2 and 9 from 5-9pm as it takes place at the same time as the Polar Express on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. MD Gov, Moore enhancing response to potential hazards

Governor Wes Moore has signed an order establishing a State of Preparedness.  The State may be declared by the Governor when there is heightened rist of disruption to the lives of Marylanders. It directs the Department of Emergency Management to coordinate services ahead of a potential impact from hazards or threats through early coordination and proactive protection. It also allows emergency services more flexibility to act without the declaration of a full State of Emergency.  When a State of Preparedness is declared Maryland residents and visitors should stay informed through trusted local and state communications and news sources.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT ARREST

On Saturday, November 25, 2023 at approximately 4:42 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of N. Centre Street for an intoxicated male subject in the middle of the roadway.  Officers located the subject and identified him as Ernest Nelson II.  Nelson was uncooperative and causing a disturbance.  He was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance. ARRESTED:  Ernest Clyde Nelson II      AGE:  53           Ridgeley, WV CHARGES:  Intoxicated Public Disturbance, Disorderly Conduct, Fail to Obey a Reasonable & Lawful Order

WARRANT SERVED

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Dakota Redman.  The warrant was issued as the result of a private citizen filing for charges against Redman at the District Court of Allegany County.   Redman was arrested and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing.  Redman posted a $10,000 unsecured personal bond. MD STATE POLICE HELICOPTER CREW RESCUES ATV ACCIDENT VICTIM

 A Maryland State Police Helicopter rescues a man after injuries sustained from a UTV rollover. At 7:40pm last night, the Maryland State Police Aviation Command (MSPAC) was requested to assist Allegany County Fire personnel with the search for a vehicle rollover received by OnStar. Trooper 5, based out of the Cumberland Section responded to the scene. While on scene, the crew of Trooper 5 located a sport style UTV lying on its side down at the bottom of a 200-foot embankment. Mountain Cats Too Much to Overcome in Men’s Basketball Overtime Loss

 Frostburg State Men's Basketball team came up just short in their pursuit of a second consecutive victory, losing 86-81 to Pitt-Johnstown in overtime on Saturday afternoon.   FSU's offense was ice cold to start the game, missing their first five shots and having to wait four minutes for senior Jaylon Johnson to get them on the board, down 11-2. MSP McHenry Barracks Investigating Posey Row Road Burglary

The Maryland State Police McHenry Barracks is investigating a burglary that occurred between 10/1/2023 and 11/24/2023 on Posey Row Road located in Grantsville, Maryland. Unknown Suspects broke a window and entered the vacant property. While inside the residence the suspect’s stole a 1990s model Stihl 026 chainsaw and removed the copper water lines in the basement of the home. Anyone that may have information to this crime is asked to contact the Maryland State Police McHenry Barracks.

It’s All Allegany County for the State Football Title

Fort Hill and Mountain Ridge will clash in Annapolis for the third straight year as they compete for the Class 1A state football title.  Fort Hill cruised to a 38-20 win over Cambridge South Dorchester Friday night while Mountain Ridge galloped past Perryville, 40-14.   Fort Hill defeated Mountain Ridge, 37-14, in October.   WCBC Radio will provide complete coverage of the championship game next Saturday.  Pregame coverage begins at 11 a.m. with kickoff at noon.
