Attracting A Minor League Baseball Team Discussed

America’s past time- baseball- was the subject of discussion last week between the Allegany County Commissioners and representatives of the city of Cumberland as talks have revived recently about attracting a minor league baseball team to the area. During the county work session, a proposal to commission a study to explore that possibility was discussed. The proposal to fund a $7,500 study was removed from a commission agenda a few weeks ago so that commissioners could study the issue further and allow more public comment. Joining the work session will be City Councilman David Caporale and Shawn Hershberger, the city’s economic development coordinator. Jeffrey Barclay, an economic development specialist for the county, said the company that could have been awarded the study contract, Brailsford and Dunlavey Inc., a Washington, D.C. consulting firm, had extensive baseball contacts and would be able to take a no-frills approach to finding out whether there is any interest by a team…
