Chamber chimes in on Footer Dye Works

January 22nd, 2013 by WCBC Radio

In a January 16th letter, the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce took a stand on the controversial Footer Dye Works building- asking Canal Place leaders to look at other alternatives to renovation of the aging structure.  The letter also opposed further public funding of the renovation project unless a credible developer is found. The letter was addressed to the chairman of the Canal Place Preservation & Development Authority, Andy Vick, and presented an argument against  any continued public funding for the rehabilitation of the Footer Dye Works building. It stated that “additional public funds should not be used if a viable developer cannot be secured in a reasonable amount of time”.  While any number of potential developers have come and gone in recent years, Vick is optimistic that at least one of those currently interested in the building could provide a tremendous shot in the arm for the local economy
